    Violet Tear

    Chapter One

Tess asked YOU to merry her! Thomas Violet’s voice was calm but belligerent. Thomas was in his early fifties with salt and peppered colored hair. He was slightly overweight but looked to be in good health. He owned a chain of luxury hotels throughout the United States and the world. Since his wife died, he has been overprotective of his daughter with the means to go to the extreme.

Yes sir. Kyle responded to his future father-in-law. Kyle was in his late twenties, had short dark hair, grayish blue eyes and a baby face that never showed a five o’clock shadow. He was currently driving Mr. Violet to a restaurant in his Honda Civic for lunch. He had other plans, but Mr. Violet changed all that.

Thomas grunted. He had gone to Kyle’s job at Elling Space again and had asked the lobby secretary to page him. Unlike last time, he didn’t involve the CEO. When he arrived, it was shortly before lunch, so Kyle decided to take an early lunch to get Mr. Violet out of the office. The last thing he wanted was for the CEO to find out that the billionaire had visited him again. It was true that Mr. Violet was a friend of the company’s owner, Mr. Elling, but Kyle didn’t like the idea of Tessa’s father thinking he could show up here anytime and interrupt his work. He was glad that the CEO was currently out and hoped he stayed away for a few more hours.

Tessa met Kyle when she hit his car in a parking lot with her BMW i8. The Violets self-insured their cars, so when she had Kyle’s car repaired, she had it repainted from a boring gray to a sporty dark metallic purple. She also had added black racing stripes, scoops and a spoiler. She replaced the tires with ‘racing’ style tires along with many other upgrades such as replacing the headlights with the sleek LED version.

Thomas wasn’t please when he learned his daughter had done that, and now she tells him of this.

You know you didn’t have to come to my work to talk to me. I can give you my phone number. Kyle added. How he would prefer to talk to him on the phone then at work.

True. Mr. Violet agreed, but I prefer some of my conversations in person.

Kyle saw red flags go up. He glanced over to the passenger seat with his grayish blue eyes. What is it you want to talk about?

If your intentions with my daughter are honorable as you say, then you shouldn’t have a problem signing a prenuptial agreement. Tessa was his only heir. He was going to protect his daughter and their fortune in every way he saw possible.

I’d be happy to sign anything you put in front of me, provided Tessa approves. Kyle suspected Thomas wanted to do this without her knowledge. Why else would he come to him like this?

    I see.

They reached the restaurant and were seated immediately as they beat the lunch hour crowd.

You understand why I want this. Thomas said after they placed their orders.

Of course, and I sympathize with your concern. Kyle responded. But you need to understand I’m not going to do anything behind Tessa’s back. Kyle wanted to add that she has had too much grief in her life but kept that thought to himself. He definitely didn’t want to add anything to it.

Thomas honestly didn’t know how his daughter would respond. He had hoped to keep her out of it. Sure, Tessa’s attitude had improved drastically since she met Kyle, but that didn’t reflect on Kyle’s objectives. Yes, that is understandable. Thomas finally said. What Kyle said sounded noble, but he wondered if this was just a ploy, hoping Tessa wouldn’t approve. There were other ways to ensure Kyle’s integrity and
