Can a single night change the rest of your life?
Enzo is driving the cab, is the last ride of the night and last working day: after spending more than forty years throw Genoa’s alleys, he decided to retire and dedicate himself to Adelina, his loved wife. But unexpected is around the corner: when he is in the proximity of his home’s garage, all the sudden, a guy comes out in the night and crosses the road.
Enzo brakes suddenly and avoids the impact but when he comes out the taxi, and recognizes the lad, his life will change forever.
“The last ride of the night” is a dramatic short story, where the destiny confronts the father with his criminal son, and the hope with the desperation of a man that doesn’t know how to save what he loves most.

THE AUTHOR
Cristina Origone was born in Genoa, where she lives and works with her husband.
Versatile writer, has ventured in various genres, going from the semi-serious essay Come portarsi a
letto una donna in 10 mosse (How to sleep with a woman in 10 moves) to the thriller Avrò i tuoi occhi
(I’ll have your eyes) with Fratelli Fini Editori.
In 2010 she won the prize of the Writers Magazine Italia XXI edition.
In 2016 she began self publishing with Tutto brucia tranne te (Everything burns except you),
translated in Spanish and French through Babelcube. She published with Delos Digital Alice a testa
in giù (Alice upside down); in the editorial series Youfeel Rizzoli Chocolate Olivia and the erotic
novel Due fratelli per Giulia (Two brothers for Giulia).
In 2017 she participated at the contest Fai viaggiare la tua storia
(Make your story travel),
organized by Libromania with the support of Autogrill, the collaboration with DeA Planet Libri and
Newton Compton Editori, and the novel L’amore che non sei (The love you are not) was chosen for
publication by Libromania.

It was almost three o’clock.
Enzo had to deal with such a tiredness that he would never be able to recover. He drove on night-
times for more than forty years through the streets of Genoa and just left his client on the heights.
The driver was still in front of the gate of a beautiful mansion surrounded by numerous palaces.
The road was dark and silent, only the buzzer of the car’s hazard lights could he heard.
He turned the taximeter off and stared at it for a few seconds.
An acrid smell of sweat that annoyed him hovered in the cab. It was one of the unpleasant aspects
of his job, but that smell of humanity
