Joshua Seigal

Joshua Seigal is an internationally renowned poet, performer and educator. His first book with Bloomsbury, I Don't Like Poetry, was nominated for the Laugh Out Loud Award, an award Joshua has subsequently won twice. He is also a recipient of The People's Book Prize, and has performed at schools and festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh Book Festival, the Cheltenham Literature Festival, and the Emirates Literature Festival. He is an Official Ambassador for National Poetry Day, and has been commissioned to write and perform for the BBC.     Welcome to my crazy life:

    I get up just gone noon,

    and wander lonely over vales

    while I hum a tune.

    I gaze up high into the clouds

    and contemplate the flowers,

    then think of rhymes for ‘daffodil’ –

    it often takes me hours.

    I frequently bump into things

    because my mind’s elsewhere;

    last week I tripped over the cat

    and crashed into a chair!

    Sometimes people seem to think

    my job is not worthwhile;

    they think I’m lazy, clumsy, useless,

    strange and lacking style.

    But my words shape humanity

    although you may not know it.

    The world needs weirdos just like me –

    What am I?

    I’m a poet!
