About this ebook

Life is a book with many chapters. Some chapters are easy while others are super difficult. Yet, going through those chapters requires an individual to know who created them; where they are going and who are they going to tell. One of the most painful experiences to witness in our communities is how so many people have been to the rehabilitation centres and halfway houses and still return to the same environment not transformed. Hence many relapse. The sad reality is increasingly rehabilitation centres are being build and most of the employees have never been addicted to drugs. Hence, there are times they don’t know what to do about people who keep returning to be rehabilitated every year.

This book serves as a tool for discipleship in the area of substance abuse as it covers the issue of identity crisis facing the world. The presence of a person who has been set free in Christ in the community will improve that community by being the light, hence Break Free. Those who are still trapped in addiction listens better to those who were previously in their situation. Break Free doesn’t stop with just one individual. It encourages people to reach out to others, hence making disciples by being disciples.

This book describes a simple, yet transforming message, for everyone who desires to be totally free in Christ and reach out to others. It’s also a tool to be used by any organisation seeking to reach to those trapped in substance abuse and those facing an identity crisis.
“He that the Son sets free, is free indeed.” Break Free!!

    About the Author

    Introduction

There are thousands of books on identity and addiction so why another one? What makes this workbook different? Is there any reason why you should trust me to write this?

First, and of great importance, I am not asking you to trust me. I’m inviting you to trust God because He is the author of life and knows you better than anyone on this planet. He even knows you better than yourself.

Secondly, I believe God has a special plan for each human being on earth and going back to your source will help discover those plans. No-one was born a drug addict, criminal, prostitute or good-for-nothing person, God has a beautiful plan for you. You are loved by God unconditionally hence you were created with love and to love. Love can make our communities a better place if allowed to rule and reign.

This workbook introduces the identity crisis we face as a society. It describes how to live a healthy life especially for those trapped in any form of addiction. Is it possible for one not to relapse? Absolutely!! This model describes what constitutes a healthy human being who is not focusing on blaming people for the condition he/she finds himself/herself in. Change will never come if one continues blaming people and not working things through. It also challenges an individual not to be self-centred but to give back to the community because we are all called to serve.

This model addresses various issues facing many people from all walks of life and if not dealt with, can put someone in prison and rehabilitation centres. People focus on fixing the outer appearance, like spending money to dress their bodies, not realising the problem is inside. This workbook will assist us to know the difference between a body as your earthly suit and your spirit as the real you. It is based on a lifetime of experiences; of seeing people freed from old habits of addictions and prostitution (some without rehabilitation), by connecting with the source of life, our Creator Jehovah. This workbook is not for head knowledge, but for a life transformed from the inside out.

What are you going to do about it? Most people don’t reach out to those still lost, but talk badly about them forgetting they may have been in the same situation. It took Grace [underserved favour] to get them out. It’s not because they were smarter than those who are still trapped. This workbook requires commitment, dedication, an open mind and an open heart to change and be changed by God Our Father. Change doesn’t force itself on anyone; one needs to have a positive response in wanting to change hence commitment is crucial.

    Chapter 1

I Have Been There but Didn’t Stay There!!

"²And asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. ³As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?

Who are you, Lord? Saul asked. I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting, he replied. ⁶ Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.

⁷ The men travelling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. ⁸ Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes, he could see nothing. So, they led him by the hand into Damascus. ⁹ For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything. ¹⁰ In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision: Ananias! Yes, Lord, he answered.
