    Synopsis

My Father’s Universe is a story suited for all ages. The drama is a fictional adventure in suspense, gothic, historical, horror, humor, literary, mystery, regional, romance, spiritual, ethnic, military/war, miracles, life-threatening moments, and Angelic appearances.

Careah and Kedar are small humans, known as Nano People, who live ninety or so miles from Bethlehem, the way the crow flies. The Angel Gabriella tells Shepherds: Christ the Lord is born. Careah pleads, coaxes Kedar to go with her to take a present for baby Yesuah. Their adventure takes two years through hardships that most would give up and go home. A Devil’s Darning Needle nearly stops them. Careah and Kedar, a Crane Fly, and a Praying Mantis end up on a web of the most dangerous spider in the world. They enter a city more modern than today: homes, apartments, dwellings in the country of charity. Three Wise Men taking gifts for the Christ Child meet a fourth Wise Man who has a strange gift for the Child. A mysterious green mist drifts over them, protecting them from a swarm of locust. A rainstorm forces them to find refuge on the Tree of Life and Death. Scorpions chase Fire Beetles that nearly cremated Careah and Kedar. They come upon a Cobra’s Den with all hope lost until a Chameleon, a flock of Eagles, and a family of Mongoose help them. When the trip seems doomed, the Angel Mitchella helps get them to Bethlehem. The Star of Bethlehem guides them to the house where Yesuah lives. They receive wings for their deeds, and Careah gets a neon light in her forehead for night travel. Roman soldiers are hired to find and kill baby Yesuah. Kedar receives a reward for stopping the Assassins. Joseph, Mary, and their Child are welcomed into Egypt with open arms. Careah and Kedar’s family increases by four. The drama has many scenes of melodramatic action. Careah and Kedar accidently find a civilization far advanced than ours today. HI-WY-O is a paradise like no other on this Earth. The Belcanto people live to be several hundred years old and have an IQ of 300. They are introduced to a hopeless war against the invading, evil, demonic Ant Kingdom. While fighting this sinister war, many romances are molded into an everlasting bond. The Wees meet Aquatic people. They help save their paradise. Kedar saves the life of the Aquatic King and Queen Quay’s small daughter. One of their new friends, Tara, is killed. The whole country is stunned. Eli saves the life of the King of the Aquatic people. Kedar and Careah meet Lucifer the Devil, who wants them to serve him. Lucifer is not as persuasive as he thinks he is with Careah. They get new bodies for their unselfish deeds. They are told to be prepared to leave this planet for a new one that is on the other side of the sun. Their civilization will be destroyed by an earthquake the day Yesuah dies on the cross. Their civilization will cease to exist.

    Foreword

My hope is all who read this adventure will find it alive, exciting, and perhaps glean insights into real life. Parts of the story contain information of the past, which have already changed the course of history and will continue to do into eternity. Since this story takes place in Bethlehem, Jesus’s Jewish name, Yesuah, is used.

There is a possibility of falling in love with the heroes and heroines as they journey to Bethlehem. One may share in their love and joy, cry with them in their grief, experience their disappointment, loneliness, longing, and awakening to the echo of helplessness, even feel the threat of death. By letting the imagination scan the wisdom, experiences, the effects that affected our little friends, will be something that only the reader will be able to determine. There are no better keys in existence, which will open the door to the mind, as the one that opens the door to the exciting, creative world of imagination. A dead person doesn’t know he is dead, it only affects the people close to him. The same with an illiterate person who can’t read but gets a driver’s license. The license doesn’t do him any good when he is on a superhighway and cannot read the exit signs or a dead end. His thoughts, I wish I could read.

The mind is like a treasure chest full of valuables, worthless unless displayed and used. When the mind is occupied with imagination, it begins to explore, stimulate, strengthen, and even convince that some things are more valuable than silver or gold. Anyone who values the importance of a particular composition in fiction, mythology, legend, history, biographies, essays, poetry, romance, or drama will want to see where it leads. Because of its great variety and quality, it is most worthy of serious reading. A book, such as this one, awakens the heart and alerts the mind, tantalizing the imagination to engage in the drama, unfolding with suspense and adventure, gliding into the past by several thousand years, yet as if it might have taken place yesterday.

Some of the episodes are encoded with scenes from the Old Testament and a dash of the New Testament. One may find what is written of biblical truth profoundly thrilling as insights nearly leap with glorious truth about some fascinating insights of what was hidden. The depth of God’s mind is inexhaustible, deeply embedded with words and wisdom which flow beneath the surface of His Holy Word. God’s Word is pure and needs no proof of accuracy, because His truth is apparent, existing from before time and on into eternity.

By letting the emotions illuminate the spirit with love for two little super creatures, one is able to sail into a timeless realm. God, in His infinite wisdom, has blessed the human race above every creature. And His love for the tiny creatures, He foreordained them with a special blessing, making them the most gentle, noble creatures, one of his supreme wonders of the world. If we listen to the melodious and precise sounds flowing over the pages of this book, they can seem as clear, cool sparkling water satisfying thirst that has never been satisfied before. Anyone walking and reading in the light of the Lord receives the gift of discerning what may be opened to them. Just like we face the sun or stand facing the Son, we will not see any shadows, only His brightness!

    Robert Mitchell

    Bethlehem

Careah and Kedar Wee are Nano humans living in Pepper Ridge with their tribe, the Humbles. According to the map, Pepper Ridge is a hamlet on Zest Hill in Spice County. Spice County is in the middle of Sweet Plateau, ninety miles or so from Bethlehem the way the crow flies. The Humbles and other tribes were especially blessed of the Lord for being Nano people. Sometime before B.C., a young man by the name of Bill McWee came from another country, married one of the local girls, and removed Mc from the name, using plain Wee. Careah and Kedar are descendants of that clan. What happened in Bethlehem, A.D. 1, the 10th day, the Day of Atonement, in the 7th month of Tishri, 6:01 Old Testament time, (Sept.–Oct.) 12:01 a.m. our time, transformed the course of history, affecting every human born and unborn, from this point in time, racing into eternity.

It was a typical day in the lives of Careah and her husband, Kedar. She and close friends were talking about the day’s events. Zeta, her best friend, asked, Did you hear Yesuah was born in Bethlehem last night?

Careah perked up, No, are you sure? How do you know He was born?

Zeta excitedly explained, My husband heard about it and asked our Priest Zion if the scrolls show when and where Yesuah is to be born? He got the scroll and came to the passage announcing the Messiah is to be born in the city of David on the Day of Atonement. He tossed holy water in the air and shouted, ‘Yes! It is time for the Advent!’ A short time later, my husband’s brother came in from hunting, all excited. He heard Shepherds singing and shouting for joy, Yesuah was born in their lambing house in Bethlehem using a manger for His bed.

Careah rushed home to tell her husband Kedar that Yesuah was born. Excitedly, she asked him if they would go to Bethlehem to see this wonderful hallowed event.

What! he rebutted. No! Absolutely not! Are you out of your mind? Forget it! Who in their right mind would travel that far to see some kid lying in a manger? Besides, we are an eternity from Bethlehem!

She looked at him, perplexed, Wait a minute, mister! You hold it right there, Mister Kedar! How did you know He was in a manger? I didn’t mention the word manger!

Well, snapped Kedar, I didn’t say anything because I knew you would want to go see the baby for yourself, and I was right. If you really want to know what I know, sit down, this will blow your shawl off.

    Angel Gabriella

"Last night, I was south of Mount of Olives, the stars were shining brighter than usual. The moon was so large, I thought I could touch it. Suddenly, I saw an angel in midair. I heard her say to the Chief Shepherds that her name was Gabriella. She joyfully announced Yesuah was born in the city of David. They would find the baby lying in a manger in their (Bethlearane) lambing house; He would be wrapped in swaddling cloth; that’s how I know. Oh yeah! The Angel told the Shepherds, this was a sign for them; Yesuah would someday be the last sacrifice for sin. This means there will be no more sacrificing sheep to cover sin.

"Then what happened next scared me stiff. Moving to get a better view of the Angel, I accidently stepped on a ladder. Its hiss terrified me. I yelled so loud I thought the dead would awaken. The Angel Gabriella glanced in my direction. You talk about being scared; my heart stopped. I thought for sure she was going to come down and ask what I was doing there.

Lady, was I lucky, a multitude of Heavenly Beings suddenly appeared. They and Gabriella began praising God. As they were going back into heaven, she turned and said something to one of the other angels, pointing at me. Lady, I’m still frizzled from what I saw and heard. Just thinking about it makes me sure I don’t want to go near Bethlehem, in case she is there.

Careah pleaded with her husband, I still want to go to Bethlehem to see baby Yesuah. Please, will you go with me?

He gingerly rolled his eyes, Woman, you have to realize, as small as we are, we would never make it; now let’s drop this silly notion.

Flashing her eyes, she came back at him with a famous saying, Remember, the mighty fig tree was once a little seed which held its ground.

He gruffly responded, Maybe so, but we’re not seeds.

Careah knew if she shed a few tears, he would give in. She was right. Seeing her crocodile tears, his heart melted. In a huff, he relented. Okay, Careah baby, if it means that much to you, we’ll go. But don’t blame me if we get killed along the way. Our friends would never know what happened to us. You have to know Satan hates us with a passion, and you can be sure he will be against us all of the way.

She reminded him, It doesn’t matter who is against us when we know the Lord is for us. Joyfully, she began singing, "Even though the devil or something else may try to stop us, I know in my heart I must go, and I will take a present to give to baby Yesuah."

Kedar scolded, Oh, no, you don’t, little lady. We are one of the poorest families in the country. Anyway, there’s nothing here to take, so forget about taking something we don’t even have.

She replied, To be upset over what you don’t have is to waste what you may have that you don’t know you do have. Mumbling to herself, I’ll find something. Looking everywhere, she found an awn of golden barley.

Kedar bellowed, No, no! That’s all we have to eat, find something else. She put her foot down, insisting the awn of golden barley was going to be a present for Yesuah. Kedar knew he had lost that round. Where will we get food for this trip?

She responded, We can lose the joy of traveling if we worry about food. God will provide. Picking up the awn of barley, she asked, Will you help carry this awn of barley?

No! You believe in women’s lib, you carry it yourself. Don’t expect any help from me. (This was not ordinary barley; it was larger and reddish gold, rich in vitamins.)

So, without arguing, she put the awn of golden barley in her knapsack, then strapped it on her back. Okay, I’m ready, let’s go.

Kedar was quite aware that when Careah made up her mind to do something or go somewhere, there would be no stopping her. He put his arm around her, Okay, Careah, let’s hit the road before the world comes to an end.

The entire population of Pepper Ridge turned out to wish them a safe and successful trip. After saying their goodbye, they started their journey, not realizing they were on a course with a wonderful destiny. They traveled several days and came to a path leading to a river. Kedar suggested looking for transportation. The river people have canoes all along the river. Anyone is permitted to use them for a fee.

Careah asked an elderly man tying a canoe to a dock if they could use the canoe to go to Bethlehem? For a fee, you can go where you please, replied the river man.

    We have no money, sir.

I see you have a knapsack. What’s in it?

    An awn of golden barley.

If you give me one of the seeds, it’s a deal.

Careah agreed, gave him one of the seeds, and placed the knapsack in the canoe. She was keeping it near, in case she had to grab it and swim for her life. She remarked, I like traveling like this, it beats walking. She was in high spirits, singing, making up songs about the newborn King, the Prince of Peace.

"O’ little Yesuah in Bethlehem, we will see you soon. As each day goes by, I know the angels are watching over you lying in the manger. I will sing to God, our King, because you bring true peace to people on Earth. Let every person glorify the newborn King, the Prince of Peace."

The water was calm and smooth, moving at a fairly good speed, keeping the canoe gliding through the water. Kedar stated, "I should have brought my pan flute, then I could have played some songs to serenade you. Since I didn’t bring it, I’ll try singing. You are the one and only one I love. You are in my thoughts all day long, my sweet little honeybee."

She smirked, If I’m the only one for you, why were you watching that frowzy last week? Don’t deny it, others saw you looking too.

He gave a stifled laugh and answered, She was kind of cute but not as cute and pretty as you, my sweet spice. Just remember, I may look, but I don’t touch. Sometimes, I look at other women to see how lucky I am to be married to you. No one can, or ever will, take your place beside me.

Sadly, she touched his back with her opened hand, trying to hide watery eyes, It still hurts me when you look at other women, and I feel you want someone else. I wish you wouldn’t do it at all.

Kedar’s face flushed, I’m very sorry. I promise I’ll not do it anymore. I should know better. I know how I would feel if you did that to me.

She knew in her heart he always kept his promises.

    Devil’s Darning Needle

Coming to a narrow part of the river, the current was relatively swift, forcing them to go through rough rapids. Getting through without tipping over, they passed a small stream flowing into the river. With the increase of water, the current became swifter, helping the canoe to navigate faster. As the little vessel came out of a tight bend in the river, a terrifying sight directly in front of them made them wish it was midnight. Their hearts pulsated into throbbing chest pains. The horrifying sight rocketed their imagination. Nothing would be more frightening, not even being tied to a post, fire burning at their feet while drummers were pounding drums for a stomping war dance, cheering their execution.

It seemed time wasn’t moving fast enough; they froze hoping it was just their imagination. In real dreams, before awaking, something always drives the demonic monster into oblivion. But this fiendish demon was still there and alive. Without a doubt, it was the largest dragonfly they had ever seen. Four long narrow wings lay close to its slender body as it sat sunning itself on a huge rock. Its enormous eyes were closed. They hoped it was asleep.

There was not a chance stopping the canoe to avoid getting close to the terrifying creature. Kedar whispered, Don’t make a sound or breathe. Maybe we’ll be able to drift by that sleeping nightmare without it waking and spotting us. Keep your eyes on it in case it awakens.

Silently, the canoe glided past the rock without a sound. The dragonfly didn’t move. Careah mumbled, I hope we will be able to get out of sight before it awakens.

They drifted on by without a sound nor making a ripple in the water. With a sigh of relief, they headed downstream, their backs to a dangerous enemy. Kedar should have known how sly most dragonflies are. This one was the champion of the sly ones. It wasn’t sleeping as he had thought. No other creature is a greater actor than a dragonfly pretending to be profoundly asleep. This dragonfly did not need a runway to take off. With its jet propulsion and speed, it became nearly invisible on the way to the target. Dragonflies can fly faster than any insect. In fact, they can catch them in flight. Without any interference and with the speed at which it was flying, in seconds, it would head for the nearest target, Careah’s head.

Kedar turned around to say something to Careah. His eyes bulged as he realized the dragonfly was close to striking her head. In a flash, his adrenalin and instinct kicked in. The oar was in motion, sailing through the air so fast that it made a whizzing sound. But the oar hit lower than what he aimed at. What should have been a death blow to its head only grazed its lower jaw, splitting the skin.

Careah, having her eyes closed, didn’t realize what had happened. She felt the oar brush the top of her hat. Jumping to conclusions, she thought Kedar had lost his senses, swinging the oar at her because she had her eyes closed. Getting a bit angry, she was about to scold him when she heard the dragonfly’s scream. She turned, seeing it shake itself and looking at her as if to say, "Now it’s your turn!" Blood dripping from the wounded jaw, it streaked at them with a vengeance.

Kedar stood up in the canoe, preparing to battle the dragonfly. This time he’d be ready and try for one of its wings. Kedar yelled for Careah to get to the bottom of the canoe. The dragonfly spun around and headed for Kedar, its large eyes ablaze with hot anger! Although wounded, its jaw was still lethal and powerful enough to inflict a great deal of pain. Its enormous red eyes blazed with feverous hate, wanting Kedar more than anything it had ever wanted before.

Kedar bent over and positioned the oar like a bat, spit through his teeth, and taunted, I bet you have never been clobbered before! Come and get it. Without slowing down, the dragonfly suddenly changed course, veering to the right, then flying straight up, nearly out of sight. Without reducing speed, it made two right-angle turns, then a couple of spins while diving. An arrow shot from a bow would have had to take a backseat compared to its speed.

Kedar realized its lightning speed was shortening the distance between them faster than anything he had ever came up against. He knew if the nasty monster hit him in his face or head, it would be curtains for him; then Careah would likely be next. He was frantically trying to come up with a new plan of defense or attack, but what was he to do? It is nearly impossible for anyone to defend against a dragonfly nose-diving nearly at the speed of light. This one was cunning. Would it veer off again to throw Kedar off guard? No, it kept coming straight down, faster and faster. Just as the dragonfly was close enough, the oar was in motion, swinging as hard as he could. The oar impacted its wing, proving two solid objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. The dragonfly’s buzzing turned into a piercing shrill cry. The force of the blow knocked it for a loop into the water not far from the canoe.

Kedar’s hand felt numb from the solid impact and he thought the oar had cracked when it hit the varmint’s wing. Checking the oar, he found that it was still in one solid piece. The breaking noise had to have been the wing of the dragonfly. He headed for the dragonfly to finish it off. Now the wounded critter was flopping frantically, trying to get out of the water. The devil’s darning needle looked at Kedar with contempt, screaming, buzzing all kinds of vicious foul words, and desperately trying to get to Kedar. Several times it rose a few inches but fell back because the badly broken wing kept the other wings from working as they normally would.

Blood, oozing from the joint of its wing and jaw, began flowing downriver. The scent of blood caught the attention of a large catfish. Kedar spotted it coming upstream and estimated it was a little overweight. Its dorsal and pectoral fins were edged with very poisonous, razor-sharp spines. At first, the dragonfly tried swimming away. But at the last moment, it turned and tried to fight the catfish. But it certainly was no match for the big fish. This catfish had dragonflies before for its dinner. It knew just how to grab it and grind it up with its needle-sharp teeth. Other catfish picked up the scent of the blood, wasted no time, and jetted to the area to get what they believed to be their share of the morsel. But nothing was to be found. Picking up the scent of the blood from the oar streaked to the canoe, the first ones there used their heads as ramrods and tried to smash holes into it. Kedar swung the oar at their heads, but it wasn’t doing any good. Catfish heads are hard and there were just too many of them. Staying there was too dangerous. These catfish could punch a hole in the canoe or tip it over. Either way, they both would be finished. Kedar propelled the canoe toward shore.

There was no need to remind Careah to keep her hands off the edge of the canoe. She knew all too well that if she had them there, she would be missing a hand or two and possibly even be pulled into the water. Reaching shore safely, Careah suddenly turned pointing downriver, gasping and uttering a prayer. Glory be! Do you see what I see?

Kedar looked in the direction she was pointing. He turned looking at her…a mask of fright covered his face. Yowl! Those catfish actually saved our lives. That is the biggest whirlpool I have ever seen. I know one thing for sure, if we had even gotten close to its violent, whirling pulling force, we would have been inhaled into history…lost in eternity.

In wonderment, Careah added, "The Lord is always watching over us and turns things which seem bad to us to be for the good of those who love the Lord; if we would just remember this.

Leaving the river, they headed north on foot. It began to drizzle just enough to make the grass sparkling wet and slippery. Kedar wasn’t sure how far they had come. Looking around, questioning and doubting himself as to where he was, he spoke, There should be a white sandstone arch somewhere ahead; what it was used for, no one knew.

It finally stopped drizzling and when the clouds moved away, the sun shined brightly. There was quite a glare ahead, and he realized that the rays of the sun were bouncing off the arch. He remembered there was a path leading from the arch, twisting down a steep hill, leading to a village of robust Black Nano people. Evidently, the path had not been used in quite a long time as it had grown over with grass and weeds. Even though the grass was still damp, they unwisely decided to go down the steep hill. Holding hands, they ventured down the dangerous, slick grassy path. Suddenly, one or the other slipped, pulling the other along. At first, they thought it was fun: sliding, tumbling, and bouncing. Gaining momentum, the humor left after they hit an oversize anthill.

A whelming sense of panic flushed over them all the way to the bottom. Slipping, sliding, and flipping end-over-end, unable to stop the murderous fall. Each bounce began to get higher and longer, which meant their bones were in jeopardy. Both, unable to stop, uttered a prayer asking for help. Careah was able to slip her knapsack around to shield her face and head.
