This 1911 collection of eight tales was based on London's journey through the South Seas aboard his ship, The Snark. It focuses on the relations between natives and westerners—by no means to the advantage of the latter. Included are such stories as "The Terrible Solomons," "The House of Mapuhi," and "The Seed of McCoy."

Jack London was born in San Francisco in 1876, and was a prolific and successful writer until his death in 1916. During his lifetime he wrote novels, short stories and essays, and is best known for ‘The Call of the Wild’ and ‘White Fang’.
