Chapter 1
The Three Sisters of Orion
Celestial rocks pelted the three sisters, the Queens of Orion. As they raced through space, Angel and Genevieve formed a guard around Hannah and her fragile Star, just born. But the onslaught was becoming intense and they feared for the safety of the tiny new Princess.
This war was as ancient as space itself. In an effort to dominate the constellations and plunder their wealth, Durgon crushed any goodness in the heavens.
Hannah, send her to safety. There is a guardian in another world. She will be safe there until she is strong and wise enough to return.
Genevieve’s urgent whisper reached Hannah in their flight. The three shot through space at the speed of light, dodging asteroids.
Hannah knew that Genevieve was right. With Star Princess safe, the three sisters could fight and preserve her future. She WAS the future.
There was no time to lose. Durgon’s meteors were catching up and his spies already knew of the tiny Star’s existence. They would not stop until she was destroyed.
Angel gently placed the Princess in a crystal bottle. As light swirled and enfolded them, the three sisters held the bottle suspended between them, as if therein held their own hearts. Pure love burned intensely blue, so bright that light years away all the stars turned towards the glow. A tiny new born, beautiful and fragile star glowed and hovered inside.
Be safe! Be strong! We will come for you, Star of my heart!
cried Hannah. And with that, the three sisters flung the bottle with all their celestial might and the unlikely cocoon flew like a tiny shooting star through darkness and space, just in time.
Suddenly, they were pelted with meteors. Hannah spiralled out of control, her light veil ripped and shredded. Angel floated away stunned by a meteor hit, while Genevieve shot asteroids back to protect her constellation.
The battle did not last long. The three sisters were battered. Scorpio and Aquarius whisked them away and hid the three in the deepest reaches of space—far away from Durgon’s spies—until they recovered and could again take up their position as Orion’s Belt.
***
The tiny bottle, holding what looked like a grain of sand, tumbled through the clouds of another world and landed with a splash in a vast ocean. The bottle floated undisturbed through currents and eddies, nosed by sharks and spun along in the wake of whales, was tossed in the air by playful dolphins, and thrown up and down by stormy waves. Huge battle galleons swished past, brushing the tiny star aside in their haste and great monsters from the Deep fought beneath as the bottle bobbed by.
Yet, the little bottle continued unharmed through the passage of time. Galleons gave way to clippers, merchant vessels crossed its path and once a huge awkward three winged aeroplane flew right over. Through seasons and wars, the bottle bobbed and twirled and stayed safe.
Then one day, the tiny bottle was blown by the wind and washed by the current down a whirlpool tunnel to rest on a white shell-strewn beach.
A group of children came running along the beach. Several young girls collected cowrie shells in their woven baskets, while a gang of boisterous boys waded in the rock pools finding oysters and popping them in their sling bags.
An energetic lad found the little bottle. He knew not that he held in his palm the future of Orion. As the warmth of his hand heated the tiny star, the grain began to glow.
The star was awakening. The grain shone brighter and brighter, and started to jump. As the boy looked closer, the star leapt and bounced inside the bottle. Maybe this was a firefly that wanted to get out, thought the boy.
Without a second thought, the boy held the little bottle high and with a SMASH, shattered the crystal on a rock. The tiny star tumbled out onto the shells. The boy reached down to pick up the glowing grain but before he could, he was thrown back by a brilliant explosion of yellow starlight.
The children dropped their bags and baskets and fled in fright. They ran as fast as their legs could carry them back to their nearby village to tell their exciting tale.
Where the glowing grain had landed amongst
