    If you’re looking for some dragons, you’ve come to the right place.  

    Vale O’Connor stared at the middle-aged woman in front of him. Well, that’s good news. Where can I find these dragons? Tell me everything, Jeanne, he added, reading the nametag pinned to the front of her smock.

    Jeanne opened her mouth to answer, but someone across the room interrupted her. Hey!

    I’d better go tend to old Thomas, she said. He’s a regular here. Wouldn't want to lose his service.

    As Vale watched her retreat, pitcher in hand, he smiled slightly. Imagine what these country folks would say when he slayed the beasts that plagued this town!

    Where are you from? a pretty young woman asked suddenly, startling Vale so much that he spilled his drink all over the front of his tunic. I don’t think I’ve seen you around these parts.

    Me? Oh, I’m from Dalefield, a few leagues to the north of here. We, ah, don’t get many dragons around those parts. But once I heard that there were some in this area, I came right away!

    Her eyes traveled to the spreading stain on his shirt. I didn’t ask you about dragons, but you made the right choice, I guess...anyway, I need to go. My fiancé is waiting.

    With that, she hurried back to her table, which Vale noticed was completely empty.
