Ashley Whited grew up in a small town in the Midwest surrounded by nature where she learned to fish, hunt, and just appreciate the outdoors. This intimate relationship with nature can be seen heavily in her work. A graphic novel and comic, Whited is earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts for Creative Writing in Entertainment. Four pups cuddle together on the cold stone floor of a cave, providing each other the only warmth they have from the winters fierce bite. Their ribs are prominent through their thinning fur, a tell-tale sign that deaths grip is only one meal away. Outside in the white blanket of snow, a set of prints can be followed to the side of a pasture where their mother stands.

In a barn across that pasture, Brownie, a year-old Brown Swiss is having her mocha colored coat brushed by her mom, seventeen-year-old Sarah. A blue-ribbon hangs from Brownies neck reading Water County Cattle Show, First Place. You couldn’t pry the smile off of Sarah’s face, not even if you had the jaws of life. They've both come so far.
