About this ebook
Sage Bhrigu was a great tapasvi, one of the saptharishis who helped the Lord in the task of creation. He had mastered yoga and the art of Sanjivini Vidya. He belonged to the first manvanthara. He came out of Lord Brahma's heart and was called Brahmamanasaputra. He established the clan that came to be known as Bhargava gotra. The sage came out of fire after Varuna performed a great yajna. Brahma, Agni and Varuna vied for him but the Devas supported Varuna's claim. As a young boy, he mastered Brahmavidya through severe penance. Once he conducted a yaaga to find out which among the Trinity was the greatest. He cursed Vishnu for killing his wife, and so, in his incarnation as Rama, Vishnu suffered from separation pangs. Later when Bhrigu was able to bring back his wife to life, he repented the curse and started worshipping Vishnu. In fact, it's interesting that Narayana became Bhrigu's son-in-law as he got married to Sridevi who was none other than Lakshmi and the sage's daughter. While Bhrigu was known to be short tempered, he was also merciful when the situation demanded. He brought back Jamadagni to life and later helped Parasurama to give up the Kshatra way of life. Bhrigu released heaven from the arrogant rule of Nahusha and restored it rightfully to Devendra. The sage did everything to preserve dharma and didn't spare even Agnideva once as he went against it. Brahmadeva had to intervene to ease the situation. Thus, Bhrigu led a full and useful life preaching the righteous way of life to the world.

We are delighted to see Bharath Samskriti Prakashana bring out a series of small books on our rich ancient heritage. We bless the effort wholeheartedly. We have been witnessing, with a heavy heart, the situation in which our young boys and girls are being brought up without a constructive goal, far removed from our glorious ancient heritage which has been a spiritual beacon to the entire global society. The elders who are supposed to guide them and serve as role models are not well-versed in this aspect. At a time when there is a dearth of children’s literature of the proper kind, the efforts of Bharath Samskruti Prakashana Publications to wipeout this dearth is laudable. It is a sacred work and it is heartening to note that these books have been appreciated by children and parents. So far, four sets of ten books each on Epic Characters of Mahabharatha, Ramayana, Maharshis of Ancient India and Puranas have been brought out. Now they are bringing out a set of ten books on the great characters who appear in Vedas and Upanishads and it is a highly praise worthy effort.
We congratulate Bharatha Samskruti Publications for this sacred effort. May this series become popular, widely read and serve the purpose for which it is designed and brought out. May Lord Narayana bless us all.

The holy land of Bharatha has become famous all over the world mainly because of its glorious vedic culture. Bharatha is the birth place of the Vedas, which are holy revelations of Lord Almighty. These vedas are the source of study of the history of the world and they were revealed to holy sages who attained divinity and strength as a result of their tapas. This helped them in the task of extending the work of creation and in establishing dharma or the rule of law on earth. We should have nothing but praise for these great men who lived in secluced places and worked for the welfare of the world. Among such great r]ishis, sage Brigu’s name shines very brightly.
