    Something Wicked This Way Comes ~ Volume One - Anne Hawley

    This is the first volume in a collection of ghostly tales. My intention is to release subsequent volumes with new stories in October every year to follow. I do hope that you enjoy these, but also that they do not keep you up all night, worried about what’s under the bed!

    Conundrum:

    A riddle whose answer is a pun;

    A question or problem having only a conjectural answer;

    An intricate or delicate problem.

    Fiction reveals truth that reality obscures.

At only 18 years of age he had become an orphan and had inherited his parent’s estate – a palatial stone and wood mansion built on their very own private island off the coast of Maine. This island was located approximately five miles off the rocky shore of Eastport, the Northeast edge of where the mighty ocean met the inhospitable and sparsely populated land.

    Andrew’s father, John Parchwood, and John’s brother, Nigel, had purchased over a thousand heavily wooded acres in northern Maine, and then opened the paper mill just east of Waterville.

    The Parchwoods also bought a stately home in the bustling city of Boston, where the ship from England had deposited the family when they first arrived. Andrew’s parents, mostly his mother, were austere, stand-offish people, and not well-liked by the locals. Their British accents and detached personalities created the superior-than-thou reputation the family
