Soon after the publication of the original Arabic version of "Spirits Rebellious" in 1908, considerable agitation developed. The book was burned publicly in Lebanon and Kahlil Gibran, the author, was forced for an exile. That is, mainly, due to the open question to authority that it contains. "Spirits Rebellious" contains three stories centering around man, religion, law and authority all of which do not just depict the society in the early 1900s but the themes are universal.

Kahlil Gibran

Poet, philosopher, and artist, Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931) was born in Lebanon. The millions of Arabic-speaking peoples familiar with his writings in that language consider him the genius of his age and he was a man whose fame and influence spread far beyond the country of his birth.
