About this ebook
Raised in isolation and home-schooled by her strict grandparents, the only experience Birdie has had of the outside world is through her favourite crime books. But everything changes when she takes a summer job working the night shift at a historic Seattle hotel.
There she meets Daniel Aoki, the hotel’s charismatic driver, and together they stumble upon a real-life mystery: a famous reclusive writer—never before seen in public—is secretly meeting someone at the hotel.
To uncover the writer’s puzzling identity, Birdie must come out of her shell, and in doing so, realize that the most confounding mystery of all may just be her growing feelings for Daniel.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Too bad about that mystery element and case files detracting from the central romance. It was hard to get to know the characters or fully develop secondary characters with the case files style and the mystery interrupting. Just wasn't successful...
Still worth a read for those that enjoy Jenn Bennett or YA, but I wouldn't be pushing it up any lists. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Sadly, I was never invested in "Serious Moonlight." It was recommended as a great YA romance on "Epic Reads", but I struggled with it from the start. Midway it was really starting to drag and continued to do so as I struggled towards the end. Even Birdie being such a big reader didn't win me over and the fact that Daniel had a man-bun really annoyed me for some reason. I also didn't feel the chemistry between Birdie and Daniel and I found the mystery aspect lacking. This book is getting some very positive reviews but it just wasn't for me. I don't think I was in the right headspace as I was grappling with my first week of remote teaching using video conferencing and found it hard to concentrate on anything else.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Birdie Lindberg and Daniel Aoki unknowingly meet at the Moonlight Diner, Birdie's home away from home. The endless hashbrowns and cutely named pies are something that would be worth checking out if it were a real place in Seattle. A bit embarrassed, Birdie is later stunned to discover Daniel also works overnight at the hotel where she has found a job for the summer. Birdie loves mysteries, and one of the best parts of the book were all the great epigraphs at the beginning of each chapters. Many favorite detectives and books are represented, including some (talking about you, Amelia Peabody) that I still want to read. This was fun, but serious fun, as it touched on several very sobering issues for both the main characters. It was nice to see them grow and learn to trust one another, all while channeling Nick and Nora around the hotel.
