    Series No.1~

She stared into the mirror in her room and smiled at her curvy figure and her rose like complexion. She was so ready to smash cheerleading practise today. She applied her bright red lipstick that shimmered in the sunlight like gloss. She was confident that she’d be a better captain than Roselle Marion who she was co-captains with…unfortunately. She was wearing her black and blue cheerleading outfit, ready for it all. She walked casually out the door beaming with confidence as she said goodbye to her parents, she was an only child. She walked to school as usual and strut her way down the school hall, with some eyes on her. I guess you could say she was quite confident with herself, she was one of the most popular girl’s, yet she didn’t have a boyfriend and she wasn’t even interested in the ones intrigued by her. She headed straight to the gym for practise, she was so prepared to wreck Roselle in the routine. Whilst she opened the door to enter the gym she glimpsed red. As she entered the room she saw red everywhere. Cheerleaders were running around screaming for help and she wasn’t sure what she had walked in on but it didn’t sound good. One of the girls ran up to her.

Oh Lauren, thank god you’re here! There’s been a murder, there’s blood everywhere and a body behind the stands!, screamed the girl. Lauren felt shocked, there had never been a murder at Mistville High before, it was very surprising and horrid. The girl lead her out of the gym along with everyone else. Lauren had never seen so much blood in her life and now she felt scared and worried. What if she knew the killer? Where was he now? As soon as she stepped into her period two class; Chemistry she allowed her shock to really show. She felt so frightened about who it was that died, what if it was her best friend Sarah or Melissa?!

Now class I understand that you’re all upset and freaking out and that you’re probably wondering what happened and why, well I don’t have enough details but the police are onto it, announced their teacher Mr. Stellete with a concerned frown on his pale and tired looking face. Mr. Stellete murmured on and on about the murder, but all Lauren was focused on was something she could see at the corner of her eye, it was outside. A tree with some sharp point hanging out the side. She rubbed her eyes and looked again, it was gone. It had disappeared into thin air like it didn’t want to be seen.

Oi, are you okay Lauren? asked Brad Harley who sat next to her.

Yeah, I think so, she whispered but kept her stare out the window.

The murder got everyone talking, everyone afraid and everyone curious. The police were having discussions about it. She heard them as she walked past between classes, the police were everywhere. She overheard conversations all saying; there were claw marks on the victim, a symbol carved into the skin and glitter sprinkled on top of the dead body. This made Lauren wonder a lot more about what was going on. It all really interested but scared her. She wasn’t watching where she was going because she was so deep in thought which lead to her accidently shoulder budging into someone who was walking the opposite way. She stopped.

Oh my god, I’m so sorry, she spoke as she turned to face his or her direction. It was a guy, a good looking one too. She slowly examined him as he just stared back at her. He had a sharp jawline and scruffy brunette hair.

It’s alright I wasn’t really watching where I was going either he kindly spoke and gleamed a shiny smile with pearly white teeth. Couldn’t really say if it was love at first sight but her only word was WOW! She smiled back and they continued walking their separate ways. She flicked her blonde hair out of her face and smiled to herself. Lauren kept seeing him in the rest of her classes throughout the day. When 3’o clock hit, she grabbed her handbag and books. She wondered to herself how she had never seen him before, maybe he was new, but she wasn’t sure. When she headed out the exit door the guy started to walk along beside her.

Hey I didn’t catch your name, I’m Jase, he announced giving her a dreamy look.

I’m Lauren, she replied with a smile as they shook hands which gave her butterflies and a flow of loving electricity, a spark ignited. His eyes were blue and no doubt gorgeous.

Would you like to hang out sometime?, he questioned as he smoothed back his brown hair, smiling at her.

Yeah sure why not, Lauren spoke. They said goodbye to each other and wandered off. Lauren brought her friends Sarah and Melissa home with her to hang out. On the way home, they stopped at the usual traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing. She yet again saw something strange behind a tree but this time she also caught sight of a gleaming purple colour, she felt so confused. Was it some sort of animal? She had no clue. She thought about it the walk home.

That guy you were talking to Lauren, he was cute!, exclaimed Sarah whilst giggling with Melissa.

Mmhmm I know right. He is so my type, hummed Lauren in admiration.

You are so into him, aren’t you?, asked Melissa but it was more of a statement than a question. Lauren simply nodded.

That night Lauren woke up at midnight. She looked out her window to look up at the stars but something glowed brighter than the stars, something in the woods behind her house, two glowing purple eyes that resembled human shaped eyes. She was afraid but curious, so she stood up and put on her black leggings and grey singlet on. She was about to be very daring and rebel but well that’s her. She slowly climbed out her window with a confused look on her pretty face. The purple eyes were gone but she heard leaves crunching and twigs snapping nearby as she stood in the clearing of the woods. Lauren’s brave and rebel like personality made her run into the woods after this purple eyed animal thing.

I’m not afraid!, she yelled out, frantically looking around and shaking in obvious fear or maybe it was just the cold of the night. She kept seeing glances of the two purple eyes shining so bright. She stopped and looked around and she felt another presence with her and the glowing purple eyes and black pointy wings circling around her fast. Sweat developed on her forehead.

Hello?, she loudly whispered. Suddenly she felt a claw go down her side, a deep scratch. Stupid animal. She screamed and ran back through the woods to the safety of her house but she could hear the thing chasing her. She hastily climbed back through her window into her room and slammed down the window shut. She panted heavily and her green eyes darted left and right. She was scared. Purple eyes could no longer be seen and everything had gone quiet. Whatever it was, it was gone…for now. She lifted her singlet up which had been torn and she gasped when she saw the deep bloody scratch but what frightened her more was the fact that the dead body that had been at school was covered in claw marks. It was hard for Lauren to get back to sleep that night after the event that had just occurred, she was sure a nightmare was just waiting to unravel itself. She eventually drifted off and woke up to the sun gleaming through her window along with an intense confused feeling. She got up and looked at herself in the mirror and stared at her scratch which was easier to see in the sunlight. After a few seconds, she noticed something on her mirror, a symbol. She could see it because the mirror had got fogged up somehow. The symbol looked strange and had no understanding in her mind, it made no sense. She began to feel paranoid.

A symbol carved into the skin, Lauren remembered those words that the police had said, so clearly. She was freaking out and panic was written across her face, she felt the need to be cautious. She jumped onto google and researched things like ‘animal with purple eyes’ but had no luck. Luck wasn’t in her favour these days.

The following day Lauren applied her make up and put on black skinny jeans even though they didn’t quite fit due to her being curvy. She also put on a beautiful flowy blue top. She missed having cheer leading practise and wearing that black and blue uniform but today the gym would open back up seeing the police had taken away the body, blood and evidence found. She was so shocked about last night, but she convinced herself that she’d be alright and that she needed to make more of a move on this Jase guy who she had discovered is in the Mistville High hockey team. So, she had decided to go watch their first game of the season which was showing at lunch with Sarah but not Melissa as she was busy.

Getting to school was the usual slow and exciting. Slow because it was a twenty-minute walk but exciting because she got to see Jase, other days she would be excited to see her friends, but Jase made her feel so weak in the heart even though she’d only just met him. She was disappointed to not see him in any of her classes. She assumed he must be away but at lunch there he was at his hockey match indoors on the ice rink. Lauren and Sarah found a spot to sit and watch. Sarah flicked her straightened black hair over her shoulders onto her back and Lauren followed her stare, her stare was on Damon Grey who was a very hot popular guy, but Lauren thought he was just an attention seeker. Sarah always went on about him, she was crushing on him big time and she had always liked him. Lauren looked out onto the ice rink and met eyes with Jase who was slowly skidding his way onto one side of the ice rink, positioning himself for the match. He stared away from her and back to the game, smiling to himself which made her blush. For some unknown reason she felt funny suddenly, not sick funny but weird funny so she stood up and walked quickly to the bathroom. She felt something tickling her throat, up it came and it was glitter. She had just vomited up glitter! Lauren looked up into the mirror and saw the symbol again and again on every single mirror in the bathroom. She rubbed her eyes which were full of panic and her mouth was wide with shock. The symbols were now gone and the sink was suddenly glitter free. She was scared to death, did this thing want to help her or kill her? Or even want her to become like it? Someone ran into the girl’s bathroom and came up to her. She screamed again because she was afraid of who it might be, her hand quickly covered her mouth.

"Hey are you okay?’ asked a male voice, Jase, with his hand on her shoulder in a comforting way. She turned around to him. What was he doing here? His match had just started.

This is the girl’s bathroom Jase, she replied in a confused tone as she stared into his blue eyes which she sunk into like an ocean.

I heard you scream, don’t worry I’m here. After that event Jase had skipped his match to look after her.

That afternoon Jase and Lauren were planning to study for English together for a midterm exam coming up. She was all dressed up feeling and looking excited but was secretly afraid of what was going on within her.

BRING!, the doorbell rang. Lauren raced to the front door and opened it up to see the one and only Jase with his piercing blue eyes.

Hey Jase, she spoke with a gleaming smile full of enthusiasm.

Hey, he answered as he gave her a sexy look which made her heart skip a beat. She was patiently waiting for him to come in.

Don’t be shy, you can come in you know.

Of course,, he shyly laughed and stepped in.

Want a drink?, she asked as she stretched up on her tip toes to grab a glass out of the cupboard in the kitchen but she wasn’t aware of her side showing.

Woah! How’d you get that scratch?, questioned Jase as he touched the skin around it which made her shiver. She stepped back and pulled down her shirt.

Oh, it’s nothing really, just a small scratch she lied.

Alright, he answered with a somewhat knowing smile. Gosh, he was so hot!

Lauren looked down at her scratch which had already started to heal.

So, Jase, are you new to this school? I haven’t seen you around before.

I’ve been here for a whole term but yeah, I guess I’m new-ish, he laughed.

Oh, smiled Lauren. She felt dumb for not having noticed a super-hot, kind guy in a whole term. Lauren and Jase studied and made lots of eye contact, smiles and a little chat with laughter now and then. After Jase left and walked home she strolled up to her room, rushing up the small staircase. Their house was two storeys’ but the jump down from her window felt small. Her parents were still at work. The symbol was off her mirror but had randomly appeared on all the mirrors in the girl’s bathroom at school. Weird. Also, she had hallucinated vomiting glitter and apparently the symbols were all a dream too. Lauren was confused so she once again sat down on her purple computer chair and went straight to google for answers. She came across something interesting this time, a mythical monster called a Quaylo. It was a myth about it from some olden day tribe. The tribe was called the Quayloents and they were Quaylo hunters. Sweat developed on her forehead and she started to feel sick when she saw a picture of it. It fit the description perfectly of what she saw but it’s a myth, not real…but it looked real when she had locked eyes with it, the Quaylo. She scanned her worried eyes over the text below the picture, it was an article. Words caught her attention like; turns on a crescent moon, sharp claws, carries a jar of glitter, has purple eyes which can change colour, urge to kill and needs more people in its pack. More people in its pack? Like a wolf pack? What she saw was not a wolf. She read on; The Quaylo has sharp pointy black wings and so it can fly but if it encounters whatever its fear is as a human that can kill it along with ash from a tree. A tree called ‘The Melong Tree’. As a human?! What she saw
