Broken Thorns: Blood & Thorns, #3
()
About this ebook
Unemployed Bounty Hunter. Witch. Magic sucks.
I did what few have done—returned from the Fae world. Except in doing so, my witch and wizard powers got tangled up with fae magic. Now even my simplest spells can go haywire. Not a good thing whenever I can't protect myself from ghouls and goblins.
Plus, I've got vamp blood running through me that makes me a target to vampires from miles around. And the one vampire who can fix this hunger in me, claim me, doesn't want to be anywhere near me.
Now my best friend is on a mission to track down the bastard who turned her and I can't help her. I can't even get my hair color to return to its natural black since leaving the fae world.
When a bunch of fae warriors come to collect me to remake their queen, the only chance I have is to seek the help of the vampire who hates me and the one I can't risk my heart with.
If you like the bones of The Hollows, the depth of The Dresden Files, and the soul of The Craft, then you'll devour Cheri Winter's imaginative series.

Chapter 1
Diego’s fangs extended and his blood red eyes locked on me. No sudden moves. No flinching. If he even smelled my fear, he’d attack.
Everything is okay. You’re fine—there are no ghosts.
I held up my hands. Damn, the magic I’d used to remove the curse on him should’ve worked. Why was he still hallucinating and believing that the twin ghosts were still haunting him?
At his growl, it took all of my strength not to take a step backward. He stepped forward. His shin hitting the coffee table between us. Not that it would be a barrier if he attacked. No human or witch could outrun a vampire. I had to get him to calm down and the blood bond I had with Stryker wasn’t helping. Didn’t matter that it had been weeks since he gave me his blood. This was now open season. I was a neon sign for vamps everywhere to come and claim me as their blood mare if they wanted.
My roommate, Dani, had left Diego in charge of me while she took care of Aramond. A master vamp who had killed her best friend and never stopped. Even the ASH—Aligned Supernatural Human police force couldn’t catch him.
It’s only an illusion spell.
I held my hands up, hoping he didn’t notice them trembling. The twins parents must have paid someone to curse you with it to pay for accidently killing their daughters.
It’s not real."
Something crossed in his gaze.
That’s right,
I continued. The family wanted you published outside of the law for what happened. None of what you’re seeing or hearing from the ghosts is real.
He took another step forward, glancing down at the coffee table like he didn’t realize that it was there.
Let me finish the zenyar to break the hold the spell has on you. And you’ll be free.
The muscle in his jaw twitched. No, I will never be free of what I’ve done.
Easy.
I couldn’t help backing away this time at the darkness in his expression. As far as society and ASH is concerned, you have. It was an accident, Diego. A horrible, tragedy but you didn’t mean to harm those girls.
His anguished roar had me stumbling backward. Fuck!
That was all the vampire in him needed. He flew over the coffee table straight at me.
