Reviews on the Series:
The £20 Note / Audible Review:
5 stars : “Interesting group of stories connected by a £20 note”
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would. It's a short story so it's a nice bite to consume on a walk with your dog or whilst you're sat in traffic.
What other book might you compare The £20 Note to, and why?
I can't really compare it to any other book, though it appealed to me because I like crime/mystery fiction though it's not easy to put it into that category either.
What does Matthew Kerslake bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Putting the voices to the characters. It's difficult to get lost in a book with characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it's a short story.
Any additional comments?
It's an interesting group of stories that can really only be linked together by something as simple as a lost £20 note. Beware though, it get's increasingly more adult as the story is told!!
The £20 Note / Amazon Kindle Reviews :
5 Stars : The journey of the note is a twisty one, exchanged between people in some unexpected ways, kept and carried by some unusual means, and allowing us fleeting glimpses into the very different lives of some diverse characters. £20 says you can’t predict where it goes or where it will end up! A very entertaining read.
5 Stars : The £20 note provides the unique story of a single note left to the wind and day in the widely diverse waters, streets and people of London. It’s a remarkable book and a must have.
5 Stars : An excellent book that is quirky and keeps you hooked right till the end. I hope there are more books like these to come, would make for a great film by the way.
5 Stars : I enjoyed reading some funny bits but overall following the £20 was a really interesting read.
Warning : Contains Adult Themes

PROLOGUE
Our story begins on a miserable and murky Thursday morning in early July, Westminster, London.
We are caught in the middle of a rather hectic and unpleasant rush hour, a commuter’s absolute nightmare, with everyone scurrying about the place to get to work and out of the rain. An ocean of umbrellas held firmly by their owners as the wind blows through them. Others can be seen holding free newspapers over their soaking heads in a futile attempt to shield themselves from the torrential downpour, while groups of tourists brave the storm and continue to block the streets, undeterred by rain or irate pedestrians, seeking out those perfect holiday shots.
One young, well-dressed gentleman, can be seen hastily walking over the Westminster Bridge, travel card in his left hand, wallet in the other, when all of a sudden he bumped into a young lady and straight into a deep, murky puddle, adding unwelcome shades of dirt to his lovely new Armani suit. In the shock of it all, a lone £20 note slowly edged its way out of his loosely opened wallet and was swiftly caught in a strong gust of smoggy wind.
Before he could grab it, it was whisked away and carried off over the bridge, straight down the banks of the river Thames, never to be seen by him again.
CHAPTER 1
A SAILORS STORY
As the £20 note made good its escape, dancing on the wind, it soon landed on the roof of a passing narrow boat. Much to the delight of the slightly scruffy and rustic sailor: Captain David McFadden. While years wear away at us all, as a sailor: he had the whole package. A grey curly beard that could do with a good trim an old worn down pipe held firmly in his mouth that he was puffing quite happily away at and a balding head topped off with a tatty black cap that had seen better days, much like the sailor himself.
To his delight, he soon spotted the note and after realising it wasn't just another piece of discarded litter. He quickly extended his arm to seize it before the wind beat him to it. With a cracked to a broad smile, he pocketed the note and remarked to himself That'll do nicely.
Off he travelled down the river Thames passing by the London Eye, a few Restaurants and the indoor Aquarium. He made his way under Westminster Bridge, waving at the crowds of tourists as he did so, the weather could not dampen his spirits only his shabby clothes and rolling tobacco as he topped off his pipe with a fresh load ready to be smoked and enjoyed.
Spotting an incredulous-looking man storming down the pathway. The crowds soon moved aside and dispersed as the weather deteriorated. With heavy storms brewing in the sky leaving only the odd few tourists on the bridge taking photos of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, attempting to make their friends back home jealous by posting them straight on to their social media accounts.
As the Captain carried on with his journey down the river, a Metropolitan Police speedboat suddenly came rushing by, heading in the direction of Saint Paul's Cathedral with its sirens blaring out on full blast. This alerted him as he went on with his business, bracing himself on-board against the strong
