She was not one to complain but enough is enough, a girl needs a touch of variety in her life and variety was in short supply. Short? It was non-existent and Mrs. God had had more than enough. To sit in almost total darkness with nothing to do but contemplate an object no bigger than a football is mind-numbingly boring, so much so that she had begun to hate the very dim sight of the thing. She had asked God to create something, but if this was the best He could do he was a disappointment.

God, she asked, is this the best you can do?

He was hurt, touched to the quick. He wanted the best for her and this non-descript lump of black nothing was all that he had managed so far. Had he been prepared to wait for ages to elapse inspiration might have come in the form of a tough, unshaven, melon jawed cowboy who might have inspired him to prospect, to feel around and not simply accept a lump of infinitely heavy rotundity at face value. Whenever Dan found one there was a protuberance. Desperately, God felt around and to his astonishment he found a protuberance that He had never noticed before.

What, he asked his wife, is this?

In the grim, dim light they tried to read the words inscribed on the protuberance.
