One Night In Paris - Barbara Ricch
Prologue
Two weeks earlier...
Clara, Wake up.
I hear the desperate appeal trying to wake me up from my beauty sleep. Suddenly, I felt my covers being pulled and a bright glare came into my room.
Damn it! If there is something that I hate is waking up on a Sunday morning. Furiously, I opened my eyes, wanting to jump down whoever’s throat that dared pull me out of my hibernation state.
Is the world coming to an end? Is the Pope dead?
asked hysterically, looking directly at Fernanda, my roommate.
She smiled, bending her head and continued to open my curtains, and letting the sun enter my room.
With nothing to say, she turned on the TV on maximum volume, the noise was deafening and make me even crankier.
Are you nuts, Fernanda?
I am only doing what you asked me to do
I felt a satisfaction coming from her sarcastic eyes.
The TV was on the local News, broadcasting live a Valentine’s Day raffle from one of the most importants Shopping Malls in São Paulo. I recalled asking Fernanda on the night before, to wake me up early in the next morning. I wanted to watch the raffle, hopping to get the new phone, since mine was almost dying.
I turned the volume down a little and watched closely, however, it was the last raffle and I’d missed the ones before. The desired travel to Paris with an escort and all expenses paid. As crazy as it sounds, guess who had just won it? Yes...me!
Fernanda screamed like crazy as she heard my name, I was amazed for winning that raffle, after all, I had never won anything in my life, and also, because my boyfriend had dumped me for somebody else five days ago. I don’t know if those are tears of happiness or sadness.
How weird is that? Winning a trip to a romantic destination and just got dumped by my boyfriend? I think my cupid is either blind or dumb. So far, I
