About this ebook
Their similar coffee table hard cover version received rave reviews from many individuals and reviewers. ” The authors have created an intimate time capsule... an incredible all-access pass to the music and art fair that came to be known solely as Woodstock...Because Woodstock is told through a collage of photos, song lyrics and rhyming text, it also has a homespun scrapbook vibe, which feels right for recounting a personal communal experience... the peace and love essence of Woodstock rings out loud and clear and like Sly and the Family Stone 'taking them higher' here the authors likewise reach for the sky." -Kirkus Reviews

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Woodstock Story Book by Linanne G. Sackett and Barry Z. Levine is much more than photographs of the infamous peace concert called Woodstock. It's a chronicle of the festival from its inception to its completion. Levine's images are immediate, palpable, and candid, while Sackett's storytelling is clipped, providing only the essential details readers will need to grasp the photos before them. The foreward, written by Wavy Gravy, discusses the nostalgia he felt after seeing the book in its completion, and he notes that even though the outdoor festival ended, the principals and dreams of Woodstock live on."People, who were called freaks because of their hair and their way of dressing, came to Woodstock and they said, 'Holy smokes. We're all freaks' and they began to embrace that term. There were a lot of people who opposed the Viet Nam War that thought they were alone. They looked around and realized that they weren't alone--that there were a half a million people who felt the same way," Wavy Gravy says in the book. (Page 3)Through poetic lines, The Woodstock Story Book tells a lyrical account of the days leading up to the festival, the struggles with locating a large enough venue, and the community created in just a few days. The festival's stages were not even completed before the crowds started arriving."They Stood for their truthand pointed out liesThey were accused ofCommunist ties" (Page 40)The Woodstock Story Book is an essential photographic history of a tumultuous time in our nation's history.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was ten years old when Woodstock took place forty years ago, so I don’t remember much about the event itself, but I sure do remember the music from it. I was goofy even back then, and would strap my transistor radio on to the handlebars of my bike and listen to music as I pedaled around the neighborhood.I really enjoyed looking through the coffee table book, The Woodstock Story Book by Linanne G. Sackett, and reminiscing about those days and the music back then. The book is approximately 11 inches square and contains almost 300 color photographs (taken by Barry Z. Levine) and a poem about Woodstock. Even though there’s not a lot of text in this book, I managed to learn a few things about the famous music festival: * The event was organized by four friends – Michael Lang, Joel Rosenman, John Roberts, and Artie Kornfeld. * The crowd was so peaceful, police and security had little to do and were called “Polites.” * One of my favorite bands, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young performed together for the first time. * 500,000 people attended the three day event.I think most people would enjoy looking through this book since it documents music that has stood the test of time.
