John R. Sankovich
Even as a young child I was always conjuring up stories and filling them with colorful characters, sharing them with anyone and everyone who would listen. Since then, I’ve progressed quite a bit to formulating longer and more complex stories and sharing them with much larger audiences. When I'm not writing, I'm an avid Carolina Panther fan, video game player, and a Walking Dead aficionado. I wouldn't be able to do this with the support of my family, wife, two daughters, and son. Along with our zoo at home with 3 dogs, 3 frogs, a turtle, leopard gecko, sugar glider, a cat, and numerous fish. You might be surprised that with all these possible distractions, I still manage to write on a daily basis.

The Vanishing
The feeling returned, twisting stomach, bile taste in his mouth, and the worst part, the throbbing flares of pain through his skull. With his eyes shut, he listened, loud stomping footsteps echoed from downstairs. Philip opened his eyes as whoever was coming started up the steps. Crap.
The alarm clock’s bright red numbers clicked over to ten in the morning.
Sunlight coated his room, faded movie posters, dusty furniture, and an outdated PlayStation. Throwing his legs over the edge of the bed, and the room spun the moment he put weight on his feet. The door swung open, Nick, his stepfather, or better known as the boss, filled the doorway. Stains speckled his white shirt as he scratched arm.
Get your lazy ass up and do your damn chores.
Nick glared, grease coated hands on his hips. Well-toned muscles bulged under his shirt. Intimidation was an effective tool he used all the time.
Philip forced himself up, swallowed the nasty taste in his mouth, and nodded. I’m on it.
He ran his hand through his light hair and squished his toes in the dirty carpet. A bad smell wafted up from his laundry basket.
Impatient and uncaring, Nick pulled Philip up, the room swayed, and he gritted his teeth to keep from throwing up all over. Now, while the sun is still up. Sooner it's done, the sooner you can get better.
Philip twisted from the cigar scent, threads in his old shirt popped, and stumbled toward the door. Anything to get away. Where’s the list?
Same place as always. It’s a long one,
Nick said and shoved him through the door.
Bracing for the crash into the wall, he heard Nick rummage through his stuff. He wouldn’t find anything because Philip had a nothing worth anything. Plodding down the steps, he glanced at the disaster of a house. Furniture held together by duct tape, a crack in the corner of the television, and trash littered the floor. The stench of old fast food cartons attracted the flies buzzing around the front door. If his mother was still around, this would have never happened. Philip slipped his worn tennis shoes on and opened the door.
Mistake. The sunlight assaulted his eyes and the pain resumed in his brain. He spit the bitter taste from his mouth and shielded his eyes while he fought the throb behind his temples.
You forgot something.
Nick pegged Philip in the back of the head with a wad of paper. That
