Warrior of the Winter Night
By Jordan T. Brantley
…Crunch…crunch…crunch…
It was cold…very cold. It was always cold this far north, no matter what time of year.
The old man said not to travel at night in the Forest of Uth. Strange things come about upon the moon of the waning quarter
. But Tahzira simply passed him some silver and thanked him for the information. She then left her horse in the village stable.
Whoosh!!!
Her hand calmly reached for her crossbow. The wood of the handle felt warm in her hand.
An owl landed on a branch in front of her, a mouse dangling in its beak. Its large eyes bored into Tahzira’s before it swooped into the air and out of sight.

K-ZING!!!
Out of the snow came a spear of translucent white, seemingly materialized from the precipitation itself. Tahzira dove to the side as the spear imbedded itself in a tree with a resounding thud. A steel arrow pierced the night as Tahzira fired her crossbow from whence the dart came. The forest went deathly still. The wind ceased its lonely chorus in order to give
