About this ebook
Kate Morrison has plans to rekindle her dying relationship when her boyfriend Derek invites her on a two week business trip to Korea. But when the trip turns out to be just that—business—she discovers that eating kimchi and bulgogi alone isn't exactly what she'd hoped for.
Even though he can't take his eyes off his laptop, Derek does try to make sure Kate isn't completely bored. Unfortunately, hiring an oppa tour guide to show her around isn't the solution Kate had been hoping for. All she really wants is for Derek to remember how much he still loves her.
Kate decides that spending more time with her "oppa," Sean, might jog Derek's memory. The problem is, Sean isn't just attractive—he's smart, funny, and he not only listens to her dreams about writing children's books, he encourages them. With Derek too busy with mergers and acquisitions to find time to be jealous, will Kate be able to win his heart back before her new oppa steals hers away?

About the Author
Chapter 1: Romantic Getaway for One
Seoul at night was a series of lights that sparkled like stars through the twenty-first floor window of Kate Morrison’s hotel. She sat on the king-sized bed in her favorite flannel pajamas and watched as the world passed by below. Everyone out there was going someplace, doing something, and all she could do was dream she was with them.
She should be working. There were three new manuscripts in her inbox waiting for her. But she couldn’t bring herself to open them. This was supposed to be a vacation. Weren’t vacations supposed to be fun? Besides, too much work was exactly why Kate was alone, in the same pajamas that she hadn’t even bothered changing out of all day, at seven p.m., halfway across the world from her own comfy LA flat, where at least she would have her collie, Champ, to keep her company.
When Derek had invited her on this business trip with him, he’d promised there would be plenty of time for just the two of them. But here she was on day four of a twelve-day trip and the farthest she’d been from this room was the hotel gym. She sighed and rolled onto her stomach, reaching across the bed for the phone. No one should have the room service menu memorized when they were in a foreign country. Still, she ordered the bulgogi and a side of kimchi in an attempt to feel somewhat cultured and then went back to staring out the window.
She tried not to think about the adventures she was missing. This trip wasn’t about Korea—it was about her and Derek, and the fact that their relationship had become routine. That was the only word for it—no, actually she could think of another word. Stagnant. Weekly dates had turned to monthly dates had turned to practically no dates at all. Instead their days consisted of a kiss on the cheek in the morning, the occasional text during the day—usually for something they needed the other to pick up or do—and if she was lucky, maybe a quick I love you before bed. Their once vibrant, exciting relationship was exactly that—stagnant.
She’d hoped this trip would change that all.
Her buzzing cell phone shook her from her stupor, and she grabbed it off the nightstand without bothering to look at the number. It wouldn’t be Derek—he was too busy with a client meeting to call. And her parents would be sound asleep on California time, as would most of her clients. There really was only one person it could be. Hey Sam,
she said.
So . . . I’m dying here! Is it amazing? Have you walked along the Han? Have you had pork belly? Have you seen Park Kwang-sik?
Sam’s squeal radiated into the room, and Kate wasn’t a hundred percent certain if it had come through the phone or across the Pacific. She pressed speaker and dropped the cell on the bed next to her.
No. No. And I’m pretty certain I’m not going to be seeing any of your K-drama crushes wandering the streets of Seoul—that is if I ever get to wander the streets myself.
That thought made her sadder than she thought she would be and she closed her eyes.
Wait, what?
Sam yelled. Please tell me you’ve left your hotel.
Kate didn’t answer. It was stupid, really. Even if Derek had been busy, it wasn’t like she couldn’t go out on her own. She was a grown woman. She and Sam had backpacked through Europe the summer after their senior year in high school. She’d done a two-month internship at a publishing house in Quebec. She wasn’t sheltered. But this trip was not meant to be done alone. She wanted desperately to do all the things on her list with Derek.
Oh sweetie, I’m sorry,
Sam said, her own voice dropping to a whisper.
It’s fine.
Kate sighed. It’s not like I didn’t know he would be working. He’s always working. It’s one of the things I admire about him, how driven he is. You’d think after four years of dating, I’d be used to it.
Derek had never hidden the fact that he would do whatever it took to become a partner at Simon, Callahan, and Morgan. There had been a time when she’d been okay that half their dinner dates consisted of food from a carton and took place in his office. She’d even really tried to understand his commitment to his job when she’d spent more of their Bermuda Christmas vacation last year with his mom and sister than she had with him. But those days were gone. She found herself caring more and more these days, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t pretend that she didn’t.
So he’s really worked this whole time?
Yeah,
Kate said.
You know I like Derek, but that is kinda lame.
Yeah,
Kate said again.
There are plenty of things you can do there by yourself,
Sam said half-heartedly.
I know, it’s just . . .
A knock on the door kept her from finishing her excuse. My dinner is here. And you should probably be sleeping.
I can’t sleep. I have two more episodes of this amazing drama I’m watching. It’s the first historic drama I’ve really gotten into. In fact, you should see about going to visit the place where they filmed it. It's only a couple of hours outside of the city. I’ll send you the link.
Sam’s usual joyful voice was back.
Kate smiled. Well, I’ll think about it as I eat my bulgogi,
she promised.
Sam moaned. I bet it’s divine.
It really is. And so is the kimchi.
If she couldn’t experience anything else while she was here, at least her stomach would be satisfied. Good night.
Good night, friend.
As Kate went to hit the end button she heard Sam add, And promise me you’ll leave the hotel tomorrow!
Chapter 2: Oppa for Hire
Can you pass the jam?
Derek asked over breakfast the next morning. It had been after midnight when he’d finally gotten back. Kate had pretended to be asleep, but sleep hadn’t come that easily. Now she stifled a yawn as she handed him the small round tray that held little cups of different preserves. She’d promised Sam she wouldn’t just stay in the hotel again, but maybe that promise would have to be kept after a morning nap.
Derek barely looked up from the file he was going
