About this ebook

Britney Newton is a recruiter for the Rockland Breakers. Her father owns the team and one day; she will too. She is just twenty years old, but her father and the rest of her colleagues trust her enough to help them sign players to the team. It all changes when her father makes an executive decision without consulting anybody else, hiring a recently drafted new player. Britney is just beginning to wrap her head around this when she finds out that the new player is Dylan Murphy, the boy she fell in love with in high school and lost all contact with when he graduated two years before her.

She is immediately shaken and goes out of her way to avoid him, but he is more persistent than she anticipates. He wants to be with her, but they cannot break company policy. On top of that, Britney's a virgin. Everything is at stake, his contract, her job and her father's trust but neither of them wants to spurn their opportunity for a second chance. What do they do? What is right or what they want?

Note: The cover story is a sweet & sexy 15,000 word novella, with no cliffhangers, and a happily ever after!

    Fantasy Play - Kay Michelle

    One

This guy is exactly what the Breakers need; I’m telling you, Britney, Carey Newton said to his daughter. Britney sat across from her dad trying to figure out a way to talk to him that got her point across without being disrespectful. The man had a lot of money and seemed to forget sometimes that even though the Rockland Breakers were technically his team; he had a team of people under him to help manage them.

I’m sure he’s great dad, but more people than just you have to see him and evaluate that, for him to become part of the team.

No. If I waited for all of you to come together and chat first, we would have lost the guy.

Britney looked at her dad and tried to take a deep breath.

    He didn’t. He hadn’t.

Are you saying you already signed him?

Britney, wait till you see this guy, I swear-

Daddy. Did you sign this guy without asking not one of the managers or recruiters? Every single player on the team has to be vetted by nearly the entire management team before we let them join. This could be terrible, dad. Do you know how the other players are gonna act when they hear something like this happened?

Britney, I own the team. I have the authority to make executive decisions and I did.

If this guy doesn’t work out, it’s going to be on you, she said.

He is going to work out, Britney. The guy’s a machine. Young. Strong. Fast. He’s exactly what we need.

Can you at least tell me how much you got him for? she asked.

Three-year contract. Twelve million with a two million signing bonus.

Britney leaned back in her seat and put a hand to her temples. Two million signing bonus? Did this guy have wings? Could he fly? Was he made of steel so he couldn’t get injured? There was no possible good reason Britney could imagine why her father had done this.

A lot of people are going to be very mad at you, she said.

They won't be when they see this guy in action. I can guarantee it, Britney. You’ll love him.

I just wish you had told me before you signed the guy, Britney said to her father, defeated. Not only had her father broken protocol, making an unsolicited hire, he had also gone above her head, and she hated that. She was young, and she was a girl, but she was good at her job. People already thought that the only reason she was part of the recruitment team for the Rockland Breakers was because her dad owned them and she fought to fight that every day.

Both Britney and her father looked up when a knock sounded at the door. Carey told whoever it was to come in. In walked a tall man in an expensive looking suit with a blank face. Carey stood, offering his hand for the man to shake.

Antoine, it’s good to see you, he said.

Antoine greeted Carey and looked at Britney. She stood, offering her hand for him to shake as well.

Britney Newton, a pleasure to meet you, she said. He shook her hand.

Cheerleader? Antoine asked her father. Britney took a couple of deep breaths, determined not to let her smile drop. Maybe she should have let it drop; then he wouldn’t have thought she was a fucking cheerleader. Those girls worked hard but she wasn’t studying four years of sports science and management to be mistaken for a cheerleader.

Junior recruiter, she said sweetly. The man looked her up and down like he didn’t believe her.

For the team? Antoine directed the question at Carey like Britney wasn’t right in front of him and couldn’t answer the question herself.

Britney’s been instrumental in signing a lot of our most successful players, Carey said diplomatically. Britney, this is Antoine Banks. He’s our new player’s agent. He’s the man we have to thank for what might be the best placement we will get all year.

Britney looked at Antoine. He was no slouch. His players were high-level athletes, all signed on contracts of ten million or better. Looking at him, nobody would guess that he was even slightly involved in sports. He had the erect posture and stony countenance of someone who made a lot of money screwing people over, like a lawyer.

Did you bring him? Carey asked.

He’s right outside, said Antoine. Britney watched the exchange between the two men, irked that the whole transaction had gone on without her. Antoine walked out and returned shortly with the player.

Dylan, it’s good to see you, Carey
