Chapter One
Chloe Palmer watched the crowds of people move in all directions as they walked through Bourbon Street. People stumbled and laughed as music filtered through doors and lights lit up one of the most iconic streets in America. She remembered the first time she walked down the street; the sights, the sounds, the food was enough to intoxicate her without the drink in her hand. She loved going to bars and buying drinks and watching the antics of the people below her. She was the one that threw beaded necklaces at the men that were drunk enough to pull their pants down for a set of the green, purple, and gold beads. She loved it all and after her girls trip at twenty-one, she made sure that she came every year to get away from her life as a college student. She fell in love with the city but she would always have her issues. New Orleans was the city that turned her into a vampire.
She lifted her back from the brick wall and started her walk towards Reverend Zombie’s Voodoo Shop. She vaguely remembered making it to the front the building and laughed. At the time that she remembered she was slightly drunk and had fifteen minutes to make it before the tour started. Six months ago, she was a sophomore studying biology on a break from Morris Brown. She stood with her friends as they waited for the start of the ghost and vampire tour and the rest of her life.
It all started as usual. Each year the girls would take a different tour and that year was her pick. They never really cared what topic they listened to. As long as they had drinks in hand, they knew it was good. The night air was warm enough for them to have a drink without worrying about passing out from the heat. From the other tours that they took, she knew that most didn’t care that you had a drink while you learned the history of the city. The girls just wanted to soak up the sounds of New Orleans
