FANTASY NOVEL
Once upon a time...
A very long time ago...
In an ancient world ruled by kingdoms...
It was a time when war was thought to be the best solution to solve conflicts...
A time when nations fought fiercely for supremacy...
To be more specific, it was the year 1100 AD, the first year of the 12th century. By that time, diplomatic ties between two nations Horse Hill and Amersia had gone from bad to worse...
These two kingdoms were conflicting for power over a very special metal known as Relinium, this mineral was first discovered by the Amersians of Amersia on one of the mountains surrounding the Horsian border...
When the Horsians of Horse Hill heard of this, they demanded an equal share since it was found on what they believed was part of their land...
They first agreed upon equal shares of the mine, but the raw material proved to be so precious in such a way that both empires wanted full control over it...
Which eventually led to.........
Chapter 1: The bloody encounter
Archers! Load your bows! Adjust your trajectories! Fire!!!
commanded General Siyabonga Nkosi, the chief commander of all the Horsian forces. Showers of poisonous arrows hailed down upon the Amersian forces, exterminating them in large numbers.
Sire! What should we do!?
asked one of the Amersian archers. General Thokozani Nhlapho quickly replied.
What do you think!? Load your bows and fire! Now!!!
Y-yes sire!
the Amersian archers also fired a rain of poisonous arrows that wreaked havoc upon the Horsian forces.
Archers! Load your bows! Adjust your trajectories! Fire!!! Horsemen let’s all attack! Spearmen and swordsmen follow us!
as the Horsian archers fired another meteor shower of arrows on the Amersian forces, the rest of the Horsian army was charging forward, with General Siyabonga Nkosi taking the lead.
"Archers! Slow them down with arrows! Swordsmen! Scatter around and take cover! Wait for them to get close enough then surround them! Horsemen! Let’s hold our ground! Spearmen!
Throw your spears at my command!" commanded General Thokozani Nhlapho.
As the Horsian army was rushing forward, many of their warriors were being stroked by poisonous arrows, piercing through their iron muscles and killing them in an instant. However that did not slow down General Siyabonga, he continued charging forward with lightning speed, deflecting and dodging the arrows on his horse Lightning like they were nothing. Men! Do not slow down! Protect yourselves by putting your shields above your heads! Then parry the rest of the arrows using your weapons! We’re almost there!!!
he shouted.
(Good, they’re closer now, it’s time to finish them once and for all. Those bloody Horsians will not know what hit them. This war will be ours, one way or another.)
said General Thokozani, talking to himself.
(Wait a minute, something is not right here. I cannot see any of their swordsmen, could it be that our archers have destroyed them all? No, that’s not possible. They must be hiding somewhere, waiting for us to get close enough to have us surrounded and ambushed. Wow, very smart, very smart indeed. Such a brilliant strategy, just poorly executed. Well, let’s show them how it’s really done.)
said Siyabonga to himself. He then subsequently waved hand signals to his fellow horsemen, spearmen and swordsmen.
Just as when Thokozani was about to command his Spearmen to throw their spears, the Horsian horsemen and swordsmen suddenly scattered around. Surrounding the Amersian swordsmen who were laying and hiding in the tall tawny grass, catching them by surprise. Although the Horsians were outnumbered since they had lost many of their warriors, they were quickly evening the odds by slaughtering as many Amersian swordsmen as they could. The Horsian horsemen were lowering their swords and slicing off the heads of the Amersian swordsmen, as their horses were trampling on top of their bodies. Those who had managed to get up on their feet were instantly slayed down by the Horsian swordsmen.
The Horsian spearmen charged in straight to the Amersian spearmen and horsemen, denying the Amersian spearmen a chance to throw their spears from a safe distance, at the other hand the Amersian archers could no longer use their arrows since they couldn’t get clear shots from all the chaos.
(Damn it! How the hell did he figure out my strategy!? Curse that Siyabonga! Curse him!!!)
Thokozani shouted to himself.
General! What do you command!?
asked Nqaba Mashinini, the Amersian military’s executive officer.
The Amersian general calmed himself down and simultaneously assessed the situation while fighting.(Us horsemen have a huge advantage against spearmen in close combat, and combined with our own spearmen, we’ll be done with all their spearmen in no time. But by then, they’ll be done with massacring all our swordsmen. Which means they’ll already be attacking us from all sides, and we’ll only be left with about half of our horsemen and a quarter of our spearmen. They however will be left with about half of their horsemen and swordsmen, which also means we’ll be greatly disadvantaged. Well, I guess this leaves me no choice.) Archers and horsemen let’s all retreat!!! Spearmen continue fighting!!!
he shouted.
As the Amersian archers and horsemen were retreating, each horseman carried at least two archers on their horse, giving them a ride so that they could all move fast without any of their archers being left behind. At the same
