About this ebook

When Pea opened a portal and the alien cat, Max Gigan, jumped through from another dimension, he certainly didn't expect the talking tomcat to stay on as a family pet. He soon learns it can come in handy to have a fur ball from an alternate universe around when his friend re-opens the portal letting in vampire velociraptors who want to slime and eat the whole city! Pea’s dad is one of the first infected. But his dear old dad isn’t the only one. The dinosaurs escape the museum where the portal opened, and rampage through Milwaukee. As Pea's dad gets sicker, the BMX gang joins together with the feline army to corner the raptors and use them to develop an antidote. But Pea's meddling step-monster brothers threaten to ruin everything! A city wide alert goes out for the misidentified "turkeys" while Pea and his gang try to stay ahead of the hunt. Can the kids capture the dinos and get them home before they control everyone with their vampire powers? Will Pea’s dad remain infected forever? Join Pea and his gang in their battle against the SLIME SPEWING VAMPIRE VELOCIRAPTORS.

Slime Spewing Vampire Velociraptors - Kat de Falla

    Chapter 1

    All Work and No Play…

    Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1982

    Thursday

Aw, but Daaaad. Peabody Cleveland O’Neil the Third did not mean to sound so whiny. But he had other plans for tonight. Awesome plans! Now everything was ruined. I’m supposed to sleep at Jules’s house tonight. Why can’t I just go there?

Pea’s dad, who no one dared call Peabody and everyone called Major, crossed his arms over his chest and stared down at his son. "You are still being punished—per your mother—for going down into those sewers, and you don’t want me to get in trouble if she finds out I cut your punishment short, do you?"

Throwing his hands in the air and stomping to his bedroom, Pea collected his stuff. Of course he didn’t want his dad to get into trouble, but wouldn’t his dad get in trouble for bringing his kid to work?

Maximillian Gigan, Pea’s newly acquired talking cat from an alternate universe, lay sprawled out on Pea’s bed, flicking his tail in irritation. Meow, he said, mimicking earthly felines. What is it, youngling?

I can’t go to Jules’s house tonight. My dad is making me go to work with him instead.

Max rolled onto his back and contorted his body so his head curled around toward his chest. Can you do that thing where you scratch my abdomen? I’m beginning to fancy that.

Sitting on the edge of his bed, Pea did as he was asked and was rewarded with Max’s chainsaw-level purr.

You only have one more weekend and your two-week punishment will be satisfied. Patience, youngling. Besides, your paternal figure has much to teach you before you are turned loose into the world.

Pea laughed. Two weeks ago, he had opened a portal to an alternate universe in the neighborhood BMX park, met a talking cat, and saved the city of Milwaukee from flying mutant zombie rats. Now, that same talking cat was his pet, best friend, and therapist. I have to call Jules. Be right back.

Grabbing the last Zinger from the pack on the kitchen counter, he picked up the phone and dialed.

Hello? his friend answered on the second ring.

Hey, Jules. It’s me. I can’t come over. I have to go to work with my dad tonight.

Clink. Clink. Clank. Who knew what Jules was doing? Probably building a phone you could carry around without a cord from an old radio or something. Cool, Jules said. Can I come?

Pea hadn’t considered that option. He would be with his dad. Technically, it wouldn’t be breaking the rules. I’ll check. He set the phone down and ran into the living room where his dad was yucking it up, watching the first couple minutes of The Benny Hill Show. Can Jules come with us? It wouldn’t break my punishment, and it would give me something to do, and Jules is smart and can teach me stuff there, and—

Sure, kiddo. He never looked away from the TV. We’ll pick him up on the way.

Jules lived a few blocks away and tried to bolt out of his house as soon as Pea’s dad pulled up in front. But his mom stepped onto the front porch, snagged Jules and waved. Thanks, Major. What a wonderful learning opportunity for the boys! Have fun! She snuggled Jules in a tight hug and kissed the top of his head like twenty times before Jules wriggled out from her iron grip.

Once his friend slid into the back seat of his dad’s 1973 Impala and slammed the heavy door shut, Jules started bouncing his legs.

What are you so excited about? We’re just spending the night at the Milwaukee Public Museum. We’ve been there tons of times.

Jules dug inside his pocket and pulled out a small round object. I need to find out what this is, he whispered, unwrapping a dull stone tightly secured in a white handkerchief.

What are you kids whispering about? His dad stared at the road. It better not be any more of that zombie rat nonsense. I understand having an imagination when you’re a kid, but that crazy story you concocted about why you were in the sewers was nonsense and you both know it. None of that baloney on my watch, got it?

Why wouldn’t his dad understand Pea never lied to him and never would? If only his dad would believe him, maybe the two of them would be able to make sense of that adventure…together. He’d have to beg Max to talk in front of his dad, then he’d have to believe him.

Pea turned the object over in his hands. Brrr! It’s cold. He flipped it from hand to hand because his palms were starting to get red splotches on them. Where’d you get that? It’s heavy, like iron. Maybe a meteor?

That’s what I was thinking! Or it could be a piece of the Death Star.

Jules was such a Star Wars junkie—thanks to Pea who paid for them to take the bus to Southridge Mall and see The Empire Strikes Back. Yeah, right. Did you find a piece of Darth Vader’s helmet, too?

No, dork. But this did turn up in a cool place if you really want to know. He lowered his voice. I found it at Moto Maddie’s BMX Park.

    Chapter 2

    Oh No, Not Again…

Like a game of Hot Potato, Pea dropped the rock back into the handkerchief. Not again. He didn’t think he could handle another extraordinary event. Even though having a talking cat was the coolest thing that ever happened to him.

Something told him this cold potato was bad.

    Really bad.

After they parked and went in the employee entrance of the museum, his dad collected his janitorial supplies from the stock room. Stay out of trouble. Don’t touch anything. Don’t break anything. And don’t bug anyone who’s working late. If anyone asks, say you’re with me. Got it?
