“You sure you don’t want to come stay in the bed with me?” He asked, his eyes flashing with mischief as he stood back up. I was taken aback by how forward he was.

I was just shocked that he was gay, too!

He must have seen the look on my face, because he backed off. “Sorry! Did I read you wrong? Jesus, I’m a jerk...”

“I’m just not... sure we’d both fit!” I stuttered, blushing.

Jax relaxed with a laughing sigh.

He stepped closer to me, pulling my chin up and forcing me to look into his eyes. “Just say yes.”

My heart thumped against my chest so hard it hurt. My hands were already shaking, too. Here was my perfect man, exactly my type, asking me up to bed with him.

“Or I could bend you over this chair. Would you prefer that?”

    TAKEN BY THE GAY BIKER

    A SHORT GAY ROMANCE

When I first laid eyes on Jax Rage, I didn’t even know what to think of him. He was sitting at a table in my shitty neighborhood bar with 3 other men who looked exactly like him, just with little differences.

We get a lot of different folks in here, seeing as we’re just off the big interstate and we’re about the only bar for 50 miles or so. Still, he caught my eye.

They were definitely brothers. What set Jax apart was the white streak through his short brown hair. It somehow looked natural, though it could have just been a very well done bleach job.

All four of them came in, sat down, and talked in hushed tones for an hour before Jax stood up and came over to me. I was cleaning glasses behind the bar after a quiet night. The night before Christmas was always quiet in this town. Even the worst dads wanted to be home with their kids before Santa got there.

We’ll take four whiskeys, he said before he even stepped up to the bar. I glanced up and caught the smallest look at his eyes. Ice blue, like frozen water over the lake.

Sure thing, I said, holding up the cost with my fingers and setting out four glasses. I’m a good bartender, good enough that even the bigots around here ignore that I’m obviously gay. You folks look like you’re not from around here. What has you out on Christmas Eve?

He was silent for a moment, and then he smiled. Just on our way to finish some work.

Will you be home in time for Christmas? His voice was deep and dark, but somehow warm. I liked hearing him talk.

Probably not, I’m afraid. Home’s in the opposite direction. But it’s fine, if I’m out with my brothers then home comes with me.

How sweet. Y'all have a family business? What do you do? I wasn’t usually good with small talk, but I was honestly curious about the man. Probably because he was so goddamn hot.

Ah, he said, pausing. That isn’t something you’ll prefer to know.

That wasn’t the typical answer. I was used to being lied to by out of towners. They liked to pretend they were higher up than they were in whatever it was they did. New hires liked to pretend they were managers. Managers liked to pretend they were entrepreneurs.

His answer sounded like danger. I didn’t press him on it, but I really wanted to.

    Your drinks are ready, mister...

Rage. Jax Rage. He took all four whiskeys with a wink towards me, and carried them, carefully, over to the table with his brothers. That wink gave me a thrill.

Getting hit on by another man was pretty unusual for me. Not because the women hit on me, of course, just because few gay people came around.

They all ruminated on their drinks, not drinking them too fast, as they continued talking quietly. Now and then they glanced up at the television which had long since stopped showing sports and started showing the weather.

Looks like there’ll be snow, one of them said just loud enough for me to hear.

Jax nodded, picking up his keys and wallet from the table. We should go.

All four stood up, revealing finished drinks and a tip on the table. One headed to the door while the others put their leather jackets back on. That’s when I noticed the patch with a skull on their shoulders.

They must have been in a motorcycle club. Suddenly Jax’s answer made more sense. He was danger.

The man who went to the door first cursed up a storm. The others crowded around him and did the same. I saw huge snowflakes falling from the sky over their heads and knew it had to be deep already.

Jax tossed his head back, concern written on his face. Kid, do you have any lodgings around here that would be open to take us?

I thought for a second and then sighed. I’m not sure. Right next door is Miss Obrien’s place, she often has a room or two open. She might have a vacancy on account of the holiday. Would you like me to call?

    Yes, please.

I took up the phone and kept my eyes on Jax as it rang. God, he was easy on the eyes. He had a scar above his left eyebrow, but it didn’t mar his beautiful face.

The phone only rang twice before someone picked up. Sorry to wake you, Alice. I have four men here looking for a room. Do you have any space for them?

I was silent while I listened to Alice open her book and double check her rooms. Not many of the people who passed through bothered to stay the night, so we didn’t have any real motels. Certainly no fancy hotels. Just a few kind neighbors with an extra room or two.

Oh, good. I’ll send them right over. Setting the phone down, I smiled. Good news and bad news. Miss Obrien has one room open, which is the good news. The bad news is that she only has two beds in that room. But I think I have a solution.

Jax turned to his brothers. You three figure out who is going to Miss Obrien’s place. Okay, kid, tell me your other solution.

Well, my boss is a worrier by nature and so he’s set up two rooms upstairs for us to sleep in if we’re ever snowed in. So that’s two more beds you men could take. They won’t be as comfortable as Miss Obrien’s beds, but they’re not too bad.

Jax thought for a moment. Well, I’ll stay here. Who is staying with me?

One of the brothers stepped forward. He stood out from the others because he was the only one with a tattoo on his neck. It was a word I could only half see.

I will, man. You two go and get the comfortable beds, you’ll just owe us breakfast in the morning. He waved the other two brothers off, and we all watched them as they left. I saw for a moment that the snow was up to their mid-calves.

The other two waved as they left. I stepped out from behind the counter and pointed Jax and his brother to the stairs. The rooms are just up here.

Where will you go? Jax asked. You’re snowed in, too.

There’s a chair down there I can sleep in, but my house isn’t too far from here either. It’s just a few blocks. I could walk.

Jax made an unhappy sound at that suggestion, but didn’t argue with me.

You two can choose whichever room you want. The beds are a little small, but the blankets are huge because one of the bartenders here is seriously over six feet tall. I smiled at both of them and then went back down the stairs to give them some privacy. I had some more cleaning to do before I figured out what I would do about sleeping.

Truth be told I’ve slept in that old rocking chair twice before. It’s probably more comfortable than the beds are, and it’s a nice reprieve when your mom is screaming at you because she doesn’t want to take her medication.

As I cleaned more of the glasses, my mind wandered to Jax again. His shoulders were so wide, and he was obviously very muscular. He was exactly my kind of man, which was bad for me because it usually led to a lot of very bad relationships.

Not that there were many good men my age around town. Anyone worth keeping left right after high school.

And none of them were gay, anyway!

I guess that meant I’m the one who wasn’t worth keeping. It barely hurt to think that. I knew I wasn’t much of a treasure. I’d known it since I was a kid.

Footsteps on the stairs alerted me to one of the brothers coming down and broke the morose silence around me. Maybe he was coming down for a glass of water, or to say goodnight.

Jax poked his head around the wall and smiled. Have you figured out what you’re going to do about the snow?

Shrugging, I set down the last clean glass. I’ll probably just sleep in the chair.

I really don’t like that, he said, frowning deep as he stepped up to the counter. You worked harder than I did today.

Trust me, I laughed, It’s probably more comfortable than the bed I’m making you sleep in.

His eyebrows raised, and then he looked around the room, scanning for the chair. When he saw it, he stood up. This old thing? It looks about ready to fall apart.

The moss green fabric covering it was long stained by beer and ashes from when folks were allowed to smoke in the bar. Take a seat, I said,
