      Staring straight down at the vacant street, Cherry grimaced at the sidewalk – a mottled lime yellow rectangle as burnt brown as the lemon meringue pies her ditzy blond of a twin Bubblegum always baked far too long. The stale light of the lobby below flooded all the way out to the empty street. As if her sister spilled another of her overstuffed pies due to her wobbly high heels. Or tight miniskirt.

      Not due to her innate klutziness.

      No cars in sight either.

      Not even a honk in a distance.

      From the skywalk a good thirteen stories above the ground, Cherry held tight the wobbly railing tight. The rusty steel cooled by the late hour to a moderate warmth.

      Despite the summer night being humid enough to swim through.

      Unlike their oven of an apartment after Bubblegum's latest cooking success – a sirloin steak breaded and topped with icing. The cozy cubby hole they called home normally had good enough air conditioning to keep her daily chocolate sundaes from melting for a solid ten minutes.
