Introduction to the Art of Academic Advising
I AM THRILLED WITH the prospect that with this book I can share the simple secrets at the heart of academic advising. The inspiration for this book came from the thousands of students that I have encountered over the past decade and a half and the thrill of watching them leave our college and move into a career that allows them to make a comfortable living wage. But a bigger inspiration for writing this book has been the distressing reality that bad advising has slowed student progress.
It has caused students to stop coming to class and even to drop out of school and abandon their dreams. These are horror stories playing out right in front of our faces, and we don’t even see it as students drop out or quit coming to class. How distressing are these horror stories?
