Foreword
Durer was a most prominent woodprint-maker artist and painter of the Northern Renaissance in Germany. His brilliance and genius are amalgamation of two grand conventions: the Medieval, with it peak in the Gothic art, and the honored Classical tradition, revived and raised by the Renaissance epoch.
Albrecht Durer was in friendly contact with the most important Italian painters and printmakers of his era, as well as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Giovanni Bellini. Furthermore, Durer was supported by Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I who was his patron. The artist is celebrated by equally by Episcopal and the Lutheran Churches.
Durer’s huge amount of artworks consisted of church’s altarpieces, oil and tempera portraits and self-portraits, watercolors and illustrations for books and his most preferred technique in his later prints, engravings.
