Who Was MacArthur?
The American five-star General, Douglas MacArthur, was the one and only Field Marshal of the Philippine’s Army. Appointed as the US Chief of Staff in the 1930s, he played an important role in preparing the Army for the WWII. MacArthur and his father Arthur MacArthur, Jr became the only father and son who were bestowed with the Medal of Honor.
As the younger son of an Army Captain, Douglas MacArthur’s birth was in January 26, 1880 to a family of strong military background. As his family moved to San Antonio, he attended the West Texas Military Academy where he excelled not only in studies but also in sports. Graduating in 1903, MacArthur was immediately appointed as the Junior Officer in Army corps of Engineers. His rise through the ranks was swift and was a major at the commencement of WWI but was promoted to the commanding colonel of 42nd Division or Rainbow Division while US took on Germany.
