Maroon #5 - Jefferey Rafter
Chapter 1
Maroon #5,
Roughan Galaxy - Sector 911.
Scout charted the trajectories as The Goliath neared the ledge. It was always a little unpredictable, and often as tricky as navigating a rock storm when leaving their own galaxy. The Goliath shook with the instability of the atmosphere's current. The closer they got to the lower edge, the harder it was to maintain their speed and position.
Keep the reverse thrusters, steady Docker.
Scout instructed his hotshot friend, sitting in the driver’s seat of the spacecraft. They’d been friends long before they’d attended the academy together.
Do I look as though I don’t know what I’m doing?
Docker baited his captain with a cheeky smile.
Scout turned his attention to the small white glow that was located in the left-hand corner of the screen. They were presently inching closer to it by the second, but that was increasing as the gravitational pull of the galaxy known as Maroon #9 at the other end of the black wormhole sucked them in.
As the ship burst forth from the other end of the hole, the entire crew gasped. Pull up! Pull up! Burst right thrusters! Harder, longer!
Scout ordered.
I’m giving it all I’ve got captain, but there’s nothing left to give.
Docker conceded as the ship began to shake and shudder.
Buzzers and alarms began to go off, sirens screamed, and for the first time in all their journeys, Scout feared for the safety of his crew. They’d been together as a team since leaving the academy, Scout had been commissioned by one of the biggest multi-galactic corporations responsible for the sustainability of the universe. They were petitioned by various alien nations to find suitable bedder’s. Multiple divisions of species were becoming overpopulated by males as all their females were slowly dying out. The leaders from each faction had sanctioned preliminary testing on an intra-terrestrial breeding program in an attempt to prevent complete extinction of their species. However, the leaders believed that the problem was in effect, impacting on every alien nation in their immediate galaxy Maroon #5. Scout and his crew were the most successful team at finding new life in other galaxies, and because of this, they were continually scouring the nine universes in an attempt to secure the future of their own.
Scout had questioned his crew extensively before they’d signed their contracts to serve on The Goliath. None of them had plans to take on a bedder until their obligation period was up. Until then, they merely banked their credits, and when the time came that they became established landholders, they could invest their credits into a bedder of a much higher quality.
Hey, Docker! If you get me killed, I won’t be leaving my credits to you asshole!
Gunner informed the male attempting to maneuver the spacecraft through the unstable wormhole to regain stability within Maroon #9’s atmosphere.
Fine, then you should know that I spat in your breakfast this morning,
Docker teased.
Oh man that shits just nasty,
Gunner groused trying not to gag at the suggestion.
Knock it off both of you! We have work to do, if we want to see any of those credits, we need to stay on track.
Scout commanded, looking sideways at his second while shaking his head in a disapproving manner. It was that moment that everything appeared to go to the Borges. The Borges is a nation of cybernetically enhanced beings, which over time lost all manner of being anything more than a piece of robotic junk. They were often discovered in the Maroons scrounging for spare parts making them no different to the pirates who tracked the movements of spaceships such as The Goliath. Unfortunately, there was a vast calling for bedder’s on the black market, which meant there were pirates out there waiting to take the cargo of others who worked to collect them within the legal channels, such as Scout’s crew.
The engines sputtered several times before making a loud clanking noise. Docker cursed, Hellcats! We’ve lost throttle Captain. We’re going in hard and fast.
Prepare for impact. Repeat, prepare for impact.
Scout announced to his team before taking up his own seat in the captain’s chair and strapping himself in. He began to promise the universe everything he possessed if it would just keep his crew and his ship safe upon landing. Unable to counteract the gravitational pull of the planet they were approaching, it was impossible to buffer the way the metal clashed with the atmospheric pressure, the strange land was getting closer with every blink of his eyes.
Scout was well aware that as soon as they’d left Maroon #5 and entered the quadrant of Maroon #9, they had lost the ability to communicate with their own sector. It was all too possible that they could be stuck in this zone or worse.
Warning! Warning!
the onboard system notified the crew an instant before they hit with the enormous crunching sound of metal being crumpled like paper, then everything went black.
Scout woke up suddenly, unfastened his lap belt and raced to check on his crew. The
