About this ebook

She was the girl he'd never forget. Now she's the past he can't escape.

At first glance, Lukas Wunand has it made. As a rising star at a prestigious university with lots of friends and career options, Lukas could reinvent himself a thousand times if he wanted to. More importantly, he could try to forget his deep friendship with Kara, an immigrant and newcomer to his old neighborhood—and the confusion and betrayal she left in her wake.

The problem is that Lukas has seen Kara, on campus, even though she's supposed to be oceans away.

Or did he?

When a series of disturbing incidents put the student body on edge, Kara's reappearance triggers Lukas' growing erratic behavior. But his obsession with his teenage memories of her could cost him the tenuous friendships he's already strained to the breaking point. Lukas needs to find Kara—or at least a flesh-and-blood explanation—before he loses sight of what's real entirely and who he truly is.

Set in the 90s with hints of grunge culture, Munching on the Sun takes the reader on a winding road to the truth in this suspense-fueled, psychological story.

The Reviews

"As much a YA romance as a struggle for a young man to find closure. Superbly plotted and populated with a host of unforgettable characters." The Wishing Shelf Book Reviews

"Munching on the Sun  encapsulates what it is like to have big questions about life while you're falling in love and growing up."-  Clarion Foreword Reviews

"Love can make the heart glow or plunge it into an endless night of despair.  Returning to the land of the living is not a journey for wimps. The novel Munching on the Sun opens a Pandora's box of memories where evil might wear many faces, including your own."- IndieReader.com Review

"Oleksiw's Munching on the Sun is a fast-paced, skillfully plotted thriller, but still manages to discuss important, dark themes. Oleksiw's work is certainly original. The events that Lukas experiences in the novel are both relatable and realistic, and they will resonate with readers."-The Booklife Prize (Publishers Weekly)

Author

Mark Paul Oleksiw

Born in the late 60’s, Mark Paul Oleksiw grew up in the suburbs of Montreal hoping to be one of The Three Investigators. Influenced by guitar bands, all things satirical and of course, books that made him wonder, he did manage to graduate from McGill University. Mark still lives in his hometown with his wife, three teenage boys, and cat. And yes, his music is still too loud and he still daydreams a little too often. Mark's debut novel, The Boys Who Danced with the Moon, is the touching and nostalgic tale of three boys growing up in the 80s. His second novel, Munching on the Sun, is the coming-of-age story of a university student fighting the demons of his youth and the memories of his first love. The most recent novel from Mark, Time's Musicians, is a psychological and thrilling journey of an imaginative boy who is haunted by the friendships of his youth.
