James D. Cook
James D Cook, MD, MSc, FACP. Dr James D Cook was born in Ontario, Canada on July 7,1936. He graduated in medicine from Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario and immigrated to the United States in 1964 for further clinical training at the Boston City Hospital and University of Washington, Seattle. He remained on faculty there until 1975 when he left as Associate Professor to become The Phillips Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Director of the Hematology Section, Department of Medicine at the Kansas University Medical Center. He retired in 1996 as Emeritus Professor Medicine. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles on human iron metabolism with emphasis on the assessment and control of nutritional iron deficiency anemia. He has consulted for the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children Emergency Fund, International Atomic Energy Commission, National Institutes of Health, British Task Force on Iron Nutrition, Iron Subcommittee FAO/WHO. He has served on numerous national and international committees addressing the problem of nutritional anemia.
