    For Robyn,

    who makes me laugh in spite of myself;

    and

    For Jason, Christopher, and Alexander,

who see all, know all… and love all.

    the darkness

    so complete in its silence

    shrouds her soul in despair

    black as night

    she sleeps alone

    forever trapped within its walls

    the pounding rain

    relentless

whispers mournfully through her breaking heart

    the clouds overhead

    grey as her life

    breaking her spirit

    rended to tatters

    by the restless, moody

    ever-changing winds of fate

    her dreams

    shattered by cruelty

    broken shards of foolish visions

    ripped from her soul

    by the hands of brutality

    the scars

    wrenched open by bitterness

    resentment abounds

    torn fragments of her soul

    falling like autumn leaves

    the door

    slamming in her wake

    screaming all around

    the castle of demons

she is in the land of despair

    the hour again is near
