About this ebook

I was too busy thinking about the new guy. I didnt notice the fact that the door closest to me was open until I walked into it. Rubbing the red mark on my forehead I peered around the solid oak door. It was then that I noticed the person standing on the front porch. I went bright pink, realising that he had just seen me walk into a door. The new guy was standing on our front porch, his arms crossed at his chest, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Way to go Alina.

Alina Dimir comes from a long line of Vampires. Her family moved from Romania ten years ago, and since then shes had to deal with her fifteen older and somewhat annoying siblings, not to mention all the rumours about her family that have been floating around school. Her everyday routine is broken by the arrival of the mysterious new guy at school, Lupul Daciana. Alina cant stop thinking about him or his blonde tipped, messy black hair, and, lets be honest, his lips. So when shes forbidden to befriend him, Alina is torn. Does she follow her Covens laws and stay away from him? Or does she let herself give into her emotions? Is it fate or just a coincidence that Lupul once lived in Romania too? Is it possible for Alina and Lupul to bypass her familys laws and have a future together, or is it doomed from the beginning?

    CHAPTER 1

    HOW I MET HIM

Today started off like every other boring day of my life to date. My alarm clock screaming its head off. I threw a pillow at it and buried my head under another.

The younger not-yet sensitive vampires were woken by a clock only they could hear, that way no one else in the coven was interrupted, so that all the buzzing didn’t stop them from what they were doing.

Never sleeping gives you a hell of a lot more free time. Miss Alina, it’s time you got up and ready for school. It’s a beautiful day outside. Sergiu said as he entered.

Sergiu is my personal attendant. He makes sure I’m up on time for school and that my homework’s done. He is also really good at picking my wardrobe.

He’ll stay with me and do what I ask him to until I decide to replace him, which will never happen. Serg’s my friend more than anything. Sergiu has orange-y hair and brown eyes and he’s slightly shorter then I am.

I treat him as a friend despite his insistence that I treat him like the others do. Uh. What time is it Sergiu? Am I late or early? my voice just audible.

Sergiu opened the curtains to let in the morning sun, not that there was much difference with the curtains opened or closed. There seemed to be a permanent storm cloud over our house lately.

Well it’s more of a mansion seeing as how the whole of our Coven lives here. An hour after dawn Alina. I pulled my head out from under my pillow and looked at him.

I pulled a face, I hated getting up early. But if I didn’t I would never get to school. It’s about a half hour drive from home. And I procrastinate. A lot.

Who came in with you? Sergiu only ever called me Miss Alina when someone important was around. Mainly my mother or father. Normally he called all the children by their name instead of their title.

Sorry Alina, I got caught up with using titles last night while you were asleep. Anton had me entertain your cousins from Maine; spoilt little brats. He said as he picked out an outfit for me to wear. Sergiu’s really good at picking out outfits for me. He seems to judge my mood then picks out stuff that would fit that mood.

I stumbled out of bed and stretched. Did he help out at all? I yawned, already knowing the answer as I pulled on the top Sergiu handed me.

Maybe I should pick a different outfit for you… You seem to be lazier then normal Alina. He muttered to himself. I stuck my tongue out at him.

"Did he make you serve them?" I asked again. Anton never really liked Sergiu so he gave him all the crap jobs that the others thought were above them.

Also my father’s, well all my family’s, personal attendants held no love for me or Sergiu, as far as they were concerned they were higher up then us. It sucks being the youngest. It was nothing Alina. It was my turn.

Uh-hu. Sure it was. I sighed. "Sergiu, can you please tell father that I would like to speak to him as soon as possible?" Sergiu left the room with a nod. Normally I said dad but when I got really mad or I had to be formal I said father. I’m the only one who doesn’t call dad father all the time.

I finished getting dressed then walked out of my room to the dining hall. Whenever one of the coven’s children wanted to speak to dad we’d send someone to tell him that we wanted to talk to him, then we went to the dining hall. Sergiu and Anton came back shortly after I sat down.

The Master is busy. He has no time at the moment to have father-daughter time, besides you must be off to school shortly so you won’t have the time anyway. He turned to walk off. I stood up, knocking my chair over backwards. It was just for show but Anton didn’t need to know that.

"That’s okay Anton. You’re the one I wanted to talk to anyway. Why is it that you and all the other attendants think that you can tell my attendant what to do?" I moved around the table towards him.

Why is it that you all think that you’re all something higher up then me? Now am I going to have to tell my father about this or am I going to trust that you’ll hand the bad jobs around? Anton backed away from me as I got closer.

"I also think it’s time you stopped standing there and got back to whatever it was you were doing seeing as how now you’re wasting my time." He nodded, bowed and then almost ran back to his normal chores.

I took a deep breath and sat down on the chair Sergiu offered me. That felt good. I said and giggled slightly. Come on Alina; let’s finish getting you ready for school. Besides I think Anton just had the living daylights scared out of him. I stood up and walked back to my room. I’m sorry I acted like I owned you, Sergiu.

In a way you do Alina, so don’t worry about it.

You know I think of you as a friend instead of just someone who does whatever I say no matter how stupid it is. Sergiu sighed I know. Come on, let’s finish getting you ready.

Thanks for dropping me off Serg. I’ll see you after school. I said as I grabbed my bag and hopped out of the car. I stared up at the front doors wondering what today could possibly offer.

Sighing, I walked up the path towards the front doors. People looked away or quickly turned and walked back the way they had come. I sighed again.

One of those days huh? When I got to my locker there was someone leaning against it.

Nothing new, there was always someone leaning against something of mine. But never someone who looked like this. Never a black messy hair, grey eyed, handsome faced male who was about my age.

It was always one of the baseball players or the really popular kids. I wondered at that, seeing as how they all seemed to be scared of me. Why annoy me then?

I blinked a few times before deciding that I should hurry up or I would be late. I went up and stood in front of them. My long black hair pulled back in a loose ponytail under my baseball cap.

What’s up sweetheart? said the guy leaning on my locker. Everyone stopped talking when they noticed who he was talking to. A couple of them flinched, must have been the rumours.

I laughed quietly, some people stepped back. You’re leaning against my locker. The guy shrugged. So? He said moving slightly to get more comfortable.

You better move. She’s not one to mess with. Her family’s cursed. They’re all a bunch of freaks A guy next to him whispered. I raised an eyebrow at him and he moved back. The new guy shrugged again. So?

I dropped my bag then went and stood face to face with him. Could you just move? I dropped my voice so that only he could hear. He raised an eyebrow.

Just move. Is it really so hard to move half a metre? He stood up straighter. He was about a head taller than me. I had to look up. Dammit.

I let out a puff of air and went to pick up my bag. Just forget about it. I turned to walk off when he grabbed my arm.

No problem, sure I’ll move. Just tell me something. I looked at him, was this guy for real? No one was ever this much trouble. I sighed and he continued.

"Tell me what your name is and I’ll leave you alone. Better yet; I’ll make sure no one leans against your locker in the future. So what about it?"

I looked at him then decided to humour him. Alina Dimir. Now will you move? He smiled at me. Sure thing Alina He winked at me and left, leaving me there wondering what the hell had just happened.

    8848.jpg

The bell rang for the end of school. I walked to my locker stopping in surprise to find that, for once, no one was leaning against it. I guess that guy had kept his promise after all. I opened my locker and rummaged around in it for a minute as I put things away and got out my homework.

I had just made it out the front door and was looking around for Sergiu when I heard someone coming up behind me.

Witch, witch, you’re a witch, a mocking voice whispered in my ear. It was that guy again. No. I’m not. I said and I started to walk away. He caught my arm and turned me around. That’s what they all say.

I rolled my eyes then turning around to walk off and knowing he wouldn’t believe me I said I’m a vampire idiot; get it right. Spotting Sergiu I walked off, leaving the guy blinking at me.

So how was your day Alina? Sergiu said as I got into the car. There’s a new guy at school. He’s… I’m not sure what he is. Yet. Other than that it was your normal everyday boring school day.

We sat in silence all the way home. I was thinking about the new guy. Why did he seem so different to the others? What did he do to stop people leaning on my locker? What the hell was he? Serg pulled up at the front door for me to get out before he went to park the car. I grabbed my bag and walked up the five or so stone steps to our massive double front door.

I really hoped I wasn’t going from one hell to another. I just wanted to focus on my homework. Dad wants to see you Alina. Something about this morning. Ana said as I walked in. I sighed.

Ana’s one of my older sisters. She has dirty blonde hair and almost black-y blue eyes. She has two triplet brothers, Dragomir and Grigore.

Greg and Dragos both have hair like Ana but Greg has light blue eyes and Dragos’ eyes are a darkish blue.

They’ll be three hundred and five next spring. They’re the ninth, tenth and eleventh children in my family. Dragos is the oldest by about ten minutes; Ana’s the youngest out of the three.

Ok, thanks. I said as I trekked up the stairs to the second floor. I dropped my stuff off in my room then headed back down to the dining hall. Ana saw me as I walked past; she was sitting in the downstairs library which you have to pass to get to the dining hall.

He said for you to go to his study. She called out after me looking up from her book. I stopped and swallowed. His study? Why would he want me to go there? He didn’t even let Henric go in there, and Henric was his heir.

Henric’s my oldest brother by the way, he has black hair and blue eyes. He just turned six hundred and two last week. I walked the long trek to dad’s study all the way on the third floor. Dad had made his study in the north corner. Using the third floor level of the north tower. Original right?

I had to walk past Rick’s room to get there. His door was open and he was sitting at his desk. He looked up when he heard my footsteps.

Where do you think you’re going little sister? He raised an eyebrow and set down his book. Dad wants to see me in his study. I think I’m in trouble.

More than likely. I’ll make sure they have the first aid supplies on hand; should you live. He snickered picking his book back up.

Thanks Rick. It’s good to know that I have such a caring older brother. I replied sarcastically as I continued towards dad’s study. Reaching the closed door I knocked and waited.

One of dad’s attendants opened the door and led me in, dad was at his
