Enri Vilmos

Enri Vilmos is a poet and musician born in the UK but has now settled in the beautiful countryside in the heart of Hungary. It is in this quiet setting that he is able to practice the difficult skills of playing classical guitar and writing poetry. It was late in his life that he decided to study for an arts degree and music diploma, which he accomplished after several years of arduous and difficult endeavor. The author of Open Wide also trained to be a teacher during this period and taught and lectured at many schools and colleges in Britain on many subjects but mainly music theory. Music has always been my first love. But poetry is a creative process that gives another outlet of expression in which one is able to communicate ideas and emotions and stir the imagination to a different level. Enri Vilmos, BA hons

    Who Goes There?

    Why

A Piece of Paper (Peace on Paper)

Peace in Our Time was the refrain

The hollow words of Neville Chamberlain

In nineteen hundred and thirty eight

    Chamberlain tried to negotiate

    With the demon dictator

Who confined his role to spectator

Then the Fuhrer screamed and raved

The Union flag could not be waved!

    Chamberlain was a docile chap

But refused to be the dog-in-the-lap

    Of a crazy megalomaniac

For whom power was an aphrodisiac

He would state the case and make it plain

That any conflict would be in vain

The people urged him to take care

And before he went to be aware

That a little time should be invested

In having his eyes and ears tested

    By a qualified physician

    And the very best optician!

    Spectacles would improve his sight

But, in the main, his hearing was alright.

Now he could focus with improved vision

And departed on a vital mission

In an aircraft on a gray September day

Only the engine had anything to say.

He would meet the leader of the Third Reich

To discuss the Agreement in Munich

    Now Chamberlain devised a strategy

That would succeed in its entirety

    And in accepting his explanation

    Adolph Hitler signed the declaration

It guaranteed there would be no fighting

But can there be thunder without lightening?

They drank a toast at the evening party

To the Sceptred Isle and Germany!

And each and every triumphant guest

Believed that the accord was for the best

Now came the time for them to say goodbye

And they boarded the plane ready to fly

They landed safe and Chamberlain stepped out

To greet the crowd and hear them shout

He smiled and held aloft the agreement:

    Mission accomplished by common assent

The gesture was a dead rose in the hand

Of a man with his head deep in the sand

And unaware of the appeasement crime

Proudly said, we have Peace in our Time.

    Above the World

Above the world set in the sky

What can we see if we but try?

A tiny star sheds silver light

That weaves its way through darkest night
