    Successes and Failures

T HE YEAR IS 2025. My name is Dr. Samuel Smith. I’m a world renowned doctor who majored in biomedical engineering with a degree from MIT and I graduated at the top of my class. I thought that I had everything figured out. My pay was great. I married my college sweetheart, Karen and I have a beautiful daughter named Samantha. My family was wonderful. A man couldn’t ask for anything else but to live this life forever. I began to work for Biomedical Inc. I developed cures for lung cancer, breast cancer, scoliosis, dementia and aids with the common weeds in my backyard.

But now, the world is in a disastrous state.

There have been reports of wars, tornados, earthquakes, food shortages, and murders in every part of the earth. Some say that the world is coming to an end; others say that it’s the government and then you have a group of people who just don’t care. It’s very hard to pinpoint the root of the problem when there are so many problems that have disastrous effects. At this moment, I can’t tell, but I do know that no one wants to die.

I have cured so many people of every type of infirmary, but they end up in the same place after a short period in time, and that’s the grave. So it leads me to ask, what have I, as a biochemical engineer, truly done?

I’m sitting here on the floor of my home with my wife in my arms hoping that she can awaken from this permanent sleep. I never thought that my life would become so lifeless. I was trying my best to make it so delightful, not only for me but for everyone in my home. We had the best that money could buy living on 56 E. Bellevue in Chicago, IL. My neighborhood was fantastic. We always knew that there was inequality for every neighborhood; however, we always thought there was equal opportunity.

I drove a Bentley Continental GTC. My wife drove a Porsche Panamera. Our daughter Samantha was nine years old. She attended Decatur Classical Elementary School. We had the best of the best. In the past, I have said some things to my wife that have truly hurt her feelings. However; I think that there is nothing that I can do
