Introduction
This book approaches the subject of the second coming from some unusual angles. Pyramids, star alignments, the constellation of Orion, the Shepherd Stone of Israel, the Temple at Jerusalem and Adam-Ondi-Ahman all feature in this book along with other fascinating and unusual indicators.
One good reason to study the signs of the times is so that we can be adequately prepared for the troubled times that will precede the Second Coming of The Saviour. In the Pearl of Great Price (Smith, The Pearl of Great Price, 1851), the Saviour tells us that the faithful will be alerted to the nearness of His coming by the signs of the times. Joseph Smith Matthew 1:37-39:
37 And whoso treasureth up my word, shall not be deceived, for the Son of Man shall come, and he shall send his angels before him with the great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together the remainder of his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
38 Now learn a parable of the fig tree—When its branches are yet tender, and it begins to put forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh at hand;
39 So likewise, mine elect, when they shall see all these things, they shall know that he is near, even at the doors;
So the faithful Saints will be warned of the Saviour’s impending second coming. But will they be warned of the start of the upheavals of nature which will precede the second coming? I believe the answer is yes, but only if they watch the signs of the times carefully.
Some of the signs of the second coming that are indicated in this book are different to the more commonly referenced signs. That they involve symbolism should not be a surprise to the reader since the Lord has clearly used symbolism throughout the scriptures and in the decoration on his Temples. Although some of the signs are out of the ordinary, they nevertheless point to the same conclusion as do the more usual signs and they do so, arguably, with more immediacy. There will, no doubt, be people who consider that some of the signs in this book are somewhat speculative. I do not deny this. I am not a professional academic bound by the chains of a reputation dependent upon not publishing anything that cannot be verified and backed up by numerous references. However, I have provided a reasonable number of references and I believe the breadth of the topics and the cumulative weight of the evidences given, even if one or two are dismissed as too speculative, is convincing. Some constructive speculation is sometimes necessary in order to advance the boundaries of knowledge.
To be able to appreciate the signs in the first part of this book requires some small explanation of Egyptian pyramids and star alignments, but if the reader will patiently grasp the explanations given, the reward is great indeed! Later chapters look at some signs from a Jewish perspective, from political and economic perspectives and from an historical perspective. The signs may come from radically different backgrounds but they all unify in one shout—the tribulations which will come upon the world preceding the second coming of Christ are imminent! This book is a salutary warning to be prepared!

Pyramids and the Puzzle of the
Empty Sarcophagi
image001.jpgFigure 1—The Main Pyramids of Egypt
The first pyramid of any note was built at Saqqara during the reign of Zoser in the third dynasty of Egyptian pharaohs. Previous to that, pharaohs had built mastabas or burial mounds/tombs on a smaller scale.
Figure 2—The Third and Fourth Dynasties of Egypt
Zoser’s pyramid was a step pyramid with six giant steps including a flat top. Its building was probably supervised by the great vizier Imhotep. The Egyptians had built in stone before—indeed some stone mastabas were built. However, the building of the step pyramid of Zoser represented an order of magnitude advance in both organisational skills and in building techniques. Zoser’s pyramid was first built with four steps before being enlarged to its final six steps. It has been calculated that the final six step pyramid contains over 800,000 tons of quarried and dressed limestone. Hence the organisational skills needed to manage a sufficient labour force to accomplish the quarrying, dressing, transporting and building must have been substantial. It was project management on a large scale even
