About this ebook

When a husband is given a night of freedom by his wife after twenty years of marriage, he can hardly believe his luck. As he leans back in his bar stool and marvels at his newfound independence, he has no idea that he is about to meet someone who can make all his desires come true. But there is only one tiny catch: there are repercussions to every choice.

In her collection of twelve creepy tales, Stacey Bolin shares a glimpse into what happens to a mothers imagination when a full moon hangs heavy in the sky or a deafening rain pounds the rooftop. After a woman happens upon a car accident on a back road one night, she encounters a mysterious figure and learns the truth about him from a fateful phone call. A mother tormented by what she thinks is a horrifying nightmare soon discovers that what she thinks is imagined may be real after all. When a teenage girl and her boyfriend park at an abandoned lovers field, they ignore their uneasy feelings until it is too late.

Twisted offers a glimpse into the dark, never-before-seen recesses of a mothers mind as she shares short story thrillers that will inspire wonderment about what really goes on after the sun sets every night.

    VOODOO WITCH

    THE GREY HAIR CURSE

    AN ORIGINAL STORY

A couple, married in their early twenties, stood before friends and family and confessed their love for one another until death did them part. She was a buxom beauty with long auburn hair, a toned body, and kissed with flawless skin; he was tall and tan with dark chestnut colored hair and was as handsome and as strong as any man could be. Over the years they built their lives together and did their best to follow the most traditional life plan and did just about everything their parents and their grandparents had done—marry, purchase a home, get a car, and plan for having a family of their own. One by one over four years they acquired all of the necessary material items while at the same time—a handsome son and two beautiful girls had been created and brought into the world. It was a home filled with love and built on trust and respect.

When their children began arriving into their teen years and early twenties, this married couple found a new past time to their days spent together. Dinners out alone, long afternoon naps, and weekends filled with football and great food. They had many friends and acquaintances and often times their kids still found the time to gather together with their mom and dad, and everyone and make a great time out of it. Yet along the way, as most couples do, their age began to greet them in the mirror each morning—a wrinkle here and a wrinkle there and few pounds here and a few pounds there. For her, the grey came quickly, for him—his chestnut hair was still as rich in color as the day they married.

Knowing that it was important to be together as they transitioned through each stage of their marriage, the wife also realized the importance of having time away from one another. For years she did her best to encourage her husband to enjoy some time by himself. She offered numerous suggestions such as getting involved with a hobby of some sort, build a model that had a million tiny pieces that would warrant total concentration, or better yet, just go out with the fellas and be one of the guys once in a while. She enjoyed his company, but she knew that just about all men need their personal space and time sooner or later in their lives. However she also knew that those who have not taken moments of solitude over time will find that it can cause problems for a couple that could lead to regrets over things they wished they had done when they were younger. Secretly—she fancied the idea of having the house all to herself—which was hard to accomplish in their home, of 4.5 people instead of 5, since their oldest son spent more time with his girlfriend than at home.

It was mid-October when her husband finally decided to take his wife’s advice, after 20 long years of marriage, to make plans without her. All day at work he hemmed and hawed trying to come up with a way to tell his wife so it wouldn’t hurt her feelings. It wasn’t until later in the evening after dinner and he and his wife were still seated at the table sharing their events of the day, after the kids had excused themselves that he finally had gathered up enough nerve to tell her.

I’m going out with the guys! he abruptly blurted out as she spoke about her day with the kids. He nervously fumbled over his words as he told her about his plans, for the upcoming Saturday night; he had made to go out with a few of the men he worked with.

She smiled as he apprehensively began to provide her the details of his plans.

Me and the guys are going down to the local sports bar and grill located on the town dock. As he continued to speak she leaned forward and place one finger over his lips to stop him and softly said, I love you sweetie, no need for details. It’s your night to be with your friends.

He was speechless as he looked into her eyes and could see she was completely sincere. At first he felt like he was asking for her permission, but when she reassured him that she was relieved to hear that he was going out to enjoy some personal time—he felt a deepening love and understanding as the reality set in that he was going out in a few days with the guys—and she was fine with it.

The big night was finally on the calendar. He took a shower, shaved, brushed his teeth then combed his hair. He wore his best Wrangle blue jeans and a nice shirt, yet with very limited girth, due to his wife’s grand ability to cook, but he wore it just the same. He pulled on an old pair of cowboy boots and put on a Ravens ball cap that appeared severely weathered from excessive wear over several football seasons. He decided it was time for one last look to make sure he was presentable before heading out the door. He stood looking at himself in the bathroom mirror in disbelief that he was actually going out without his wife and kids in tow, but then a bigger reality hit him when he could see the lines around his eyes displaying how the years had snuck up on him—dark hair or not, he was feeling old.

Maybe I should just stay home. He thought.

Hey you, did you forget something? said his wife as she peered around the corner into the bathroom where he stood.

He looked at her puzzled and somewhat shrugged his shoulders and asked, What?

A great looking man needs to smell just as great, here put this on. She grinned as he handed him his cologne bottle that she took out of his side of the
