About this ebook
For years, Hope Carmichael, survivor of a shocking child abduction, has lived a sheltered existence under the protection of her fanatically religious father. Now, liberated by her mother, Hope prepares to start life over as a normal kid in an Atlanta, Georgia, high school.
Normal, that is, until Hope meets Michael, a gorgeous emancipated teen with a mysterious past and a strong interest in Hope. Soon, Hope’s life is filled with questions. What’s behind the angry looks Hope gets from Lucas, leader of a gang of students? Who’s responsible for sending Hope strange valentines inscribed with Bible quotations? How does this relate to the sinister business of human trafficking that operates on the periphery of Hope’s suburban world? And is Michael really a protector, or something more sinister—and just why does he seem so familiar?
In an epic narrative that takes readers from the back streets of Atlanta to the height of Vegas penthouses and beyond, Dark Hope introduces The Archangel Prophecies, a saga of vast mythological scope and great moral urgency.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was gifted a copy of “Dark Hope” via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way changes my opinion or review of this book.
This is my first book by Monica McGurk and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a big PA and YA fan, so “Dark Hope” was definitely a good choice. I read it within 2 days and am looking forward to the second one in the Archangel Prophecies series.
Hope Carmichael was abducted when she was a toddler, but was found safe and sound in a motel room. However, her abductor remains a mystery, not to mention the burning body in the bathtub. Hope also ends up with a strange tattoo on the back of her neck that no one can explain.
The emotional toll of the abduction is too much for Hope’s parents, and they separate (but never divorce), shortly thereafter. Hope goes to live with her dad for the next 10 years because her mother’s job takes her away from home too often and for long periods of time. However, her father is so obsessed with keeping her safe, his world as he knows it starts to crumble around him, and he loses his once great job, and what appears to be his touch with reality.
Finally, Hope is able to move back with her mom, and she hopes to have a somewhat normal life like she has been craving for all those years. For once, she can go to a public school, ride the bus, make friends, and enjoy extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, things are not always as they appear, and her longing for a “normal life” just does not seem meant to happen.
Hope befriends a mysterious, but cute guy at school, Michael. Their relationship is odd, to say the least. As part of a class project, they partner up and does an investigative piece on human trafficking, much to her mother’s dismay. That project, however, sends them on a wild ride, one that she just may not make it out alive.
“Dark Hope” has Angels, Fallen Ones, and much, much more. The only downside I found in this book is that the ending does not seem much like an ending. It’s not a cliff hanger, yet it does not tie things up like I was hoping, so I am left with more questions than when I started on page 1. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I 've got mixed feelings about this book. I received this book for free and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given it a 4* rating. This 390+ pages has a lot of dark experiences in it, with a few funny in some of it. To start with, it is a cliff hanger, not really telling you how it ends. Also being Catholic and doing a lot of research on Angels, this leaves me with a lot of conflicting feelings. While there are answers to many things, what really happens to Hope and her family is left flapping in the wind and it left me hanging. This is a big turn off for me. While I understand the topic of human trafficking's is a big issue, it really did little to resolve the issue in my mind also
