Frederick Douglass is an iconic historical figure whose noble qualities are visible in the lives of four major Biblical characters:

Like Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers and later became second-in-command of Egypt. Douglass was born into slavery and served as an advisor to five US presidents.

PREFACE

The purpose of this book is to introduce the Frederick Douglass Republican Movement to the nation and to make public its principles. This is not an in-depth study on the philosophical views of Douglass. Instead, it is a tool for engagement—a powerful conservative-action handbook. It will enable closet conservatives to come out of the shadows and empower them to step into the arena of political debate, informed and confident.

This book provides Frederick Douglass Republicans with those skills and tools needed to engage at the local level—creating impact at the precinct and ultimately changing the political landscape of America.

This book provides hope to conservative Christians, who know they are not racists or Uncle Toms, but they are being unfairly mislabeled, misunderstood, and demonized—with the intent of silencing their voices. The answers and strategies you have long waited for are finally here.

In addition, this book is for those who have been masterfully deceived by the Democratic Party and unwittingly vote opposite their Christian values—knowing the truth will make you free.

Finally, this book is for future generations, encouraging them to become critical thinkers and active participants in the political process—agitators for their God-given right for self-rule.

The central theme that runs throughout this book is the commitment of Frederick Douglass Republicans to help today’s Republican Party recapture its political distinction. To do so, Frederick Douglass Republicans will support only those politicians who make the plight of the poor a legislative priority—embracing Douglass’ Life-Empowering Values: (1) Respect for the Constitution; (2) Respect for Life; (3) Belief in Limited Government, and (4) Belief in Personal Responsibility.

K. Carl’s Testimony

Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it.

- 2 Corinthians 13:5 (The Message)

This biblical text marked a major turning point in my life when I began to test the way I was voting. I cannot tell you how many times I read this particular passage. One evening, more than 15 years ago, this scripture touched my spirit so deeply I became acutely aware of God’s displeasure with my vote.

His message was clear. God wanted a public relationship with me and not a private affair. I was living a conservative lifestyle yet casting a liberal vote—voting contrary to my Christian beliefs.

In essence, I was a Pavlov’s dog. I was merely voting Democrat as a conditioned reflex rather than using my critical thinking skills. More accurately, I could have compared myself to a trained seal. Not only was I brainwashed, but also I applauded to demonstrate the approval of my oppression.

My Great Awakening

To help me understand my self-destructive mindset, God diagnosed me as a politico-schizophrenic. Politico-schizophrenia is a mental condition of a person who votes in a way that is the total opposite of what he or she believes as a Christian, i.e., voting for a political party (Democratic Party) which wants to change God’s divine definition of marriage of one man, one woman to something entirely different.

As a politico-schizophrenic, I was easily manipulated to support the political agenda of someone else even though it contradicted my Christian beliefs.

While I have been delivered from this sinful and self-oppressive condition, for the life of me, I could not understand what led me to sin this way and in effect spit in God’s face. I was gripped with so much sorrow; I cried out to God in a loud voice, Lord, why am I sinning like this? Please help me understand what is causing me to vote contrary to your Holy Word without giving it a second thought!

God answered my prayer and took me on a journey of reading my life backwards to fully understand the forces influencing my behavior, emotions and decision-making when it came to politics.

Making a Difference

The purpose of my testimony and writing this book is not to get blacks or anyone else, for that matter, to become Republicans. I realize I can no more get a person to become a Republican than a preacher can get someone to accept Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior.

I am the ConservativeMESSENGER; I am not the ConservativeRECRUITER. I have come to understand that party preference is not what matters most, but whether or not my vote aligns with my Christian principles.

My message is not to tell people how to vote, but to enlighten and educate them about their vote. To help people understand that voter apathy is the number one killer of liberty. It comes in two forms: (1) Those who do not care enough to vote; and more importantly (2) Those who do not care enough about how they vote.

One of the primary objectives of the Frederick Douglass Republican Movement is to help save the souls of the politically lost—politico-schizophrenics—those who do not care enough about how they vote.

Once people are made aware, my task has been accomplished. The responsibility for facing God’s cross-examination falls then upon their shoulders.
