About this ebook

Ramadan is not an ordinary month in Islam. It is the master of all months relating to time and space till the Hour of Judgment. It has been highly acclaimed for all time and widely celebrated everywhere. Why not! It is the month of the Holy Quran. Allah the Almighty chose and opted it for other months for guiding mankind. The most exalted book; which is the Holy Quran was revealed to the greatest prophet; Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) in the month of Ramadan. It was sent down on the greatest month of all the year. It was a blessed night that equals a thousand months. It was revealed at the Cave of Hira in Makkah near the Sacred House and the Holy Kaaba.

Ramadan has been a material embodiment of both the moral meaning of faith in the hearts and material science in the minds. We have understood, realized, and learned material science through the Holy Quran. Because of that, Allah the Almighty praised the fasting month out of other months and honored it by choosing it to send down the Glorious Quran. Ramadan was prescribed to purify the materialism of man from evils and sins. It also elevates the man's materialism to the level of the good and pious deeds through enlightenment. Thus, man would submit to the will of Allah and refrain from what has been forbidden.

The Holy Quran was inscribed in the Preserved Tablet in the seventh heaven. The whole Quran was sent down to the scared house in the lowest heaven. Then it was revealed in portions according to the situations and incidents that the Prophet (PBUH) faced during his mission. It was an instruction and guide for him to solve all the problems that the Prophet, his companions, and the Muslims would face at all times.

    Ramadan in Islam

Ramadan is not an ordinary month in Islam. It is the master of all months relating to time and space till the Hour of Judgment. It has been highly acclaimed for all time and widely celebrated everywhere. Why not! It is the month of the Holy Quran. Allah the Almighty chose and opted it for other months for guiding mankind. The most exalted book; which is the Holy Quran was revealed to the greatest prophet; Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) in the month of Ramadan. It was sent down on the greatest month of all the year. It was a blessed night that equals a thousand months. It was revealed at the Cave of Hira in Makkah near the Sacred House and the Holy Kaaba (1).

Thus, man would submit to the will of Allah and refrain from what has been forbidden (2).

The aim of the Qur'an and the Sunnah to purify the moral soul which represents the enlightened part of man. The purpose is to complement the material approach that runs the universe and man. The integration of the two approaches; material and moral, aims at preserving the public interest of the people in the spirit of protecting mankind from the mischief of Satan. Therefore, man could be granted more rewards, get rid of wrong deeds, and become closer to Allah the Almighty.

In Ramadan, the Holy Quran was sent down by Allah the Almighty upon his Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) within twenty-three years by the Angel Jibreel. The Holy Quran was transferred across the different by a method called Twatur (narrating the original sayings authentically from one generation to another). Quran is on the greatest immortal books that are preserved in the in the chests of the Muslims as well as in the written books. It is characterized by its eloquence and miraculous style. Allah the Almighty promised to preserve the Holy Quran from any distortion. It is the last holy book after Zabur, Torah, and Gospel. It is also the miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that would last till the day of Judgement (3). The number of the chapters (Surahs) in the Holy Quran is one hundred and fourteen. They are divided into Makkan and Madinan chapters. The total number of verses (Ayahs) of Quran is six thousand, two hundred and thirty-six without the Basmalah. In case of counting the Basmalah, the number would rise to six thousand, three hundred and forty-eight verses. The number of words in the Quran is seventy-seven thousand, four hundred and thirty-nine words. The total count of letters is three hundred and twenty thousands and fifteen letters. The number of parts (Juz's) of the Quran is thirty parts and the number of the quarters (Hizbs) is sixty quarters. (4)

The Holy Quran is The Word of Allah the Almighty. It was sent down to protect the mankind's choice on the earth. It encompasses all aspects of life. For it contains all the ordinances of the Islamic creed, acts of the rituals and dealings; buying and selling, marriage and divorce, inheritance, and various aspects of political, economic, social and environmental life besides agriculture, industry, trade, tourism, scientific research, sports, and other human activities; both material, moral.

The Holy Quran has dealt with the issues related to the creation of the universe, the creation of the heavens and earth and every creature upon them; on land and water. It has also dealt with the creation of man, animals, birds, insects, plants, inanimate objects, all the microorganisms like; viruses and parasites, and atoms. As the Holy Quran is a comprehensive constitution that protects the interests of the humanity and guides all the mankind to obey Allah the Almighty.

The Qur'an has spoken about the three circles that control the destiny of man, his presence and role in life then his death, his creation, perishing and transfer to the Hereafter. In the first circle - before creation - there has been Allah and nothing but him. Man does not know anything about this circle which controls this world and the Hereafter. In the second circle, there were the creation and this world as well as the relationship of the universe to man and other creatures was established by it. Within this circle, there are only deeds without judgment. Man has limited knowledge about it. In the third circle, there is the afterlife and the judgment without any deeds. There is also the reward and punishment and paradise and hell. Man does not know anything about it.

Through the Holy Quran, we have known about the Throne, the pen, the Preserved Tablet, the Much-frequented House (Al Baytal-Mamur), the House of Might (Bayt al `Izzah), The Lote-Tree of the Furthest Boundary (Sidrat al-muntaha), the angels, and other creations that exist in the first circle. Man has known about them through the words of Allah and his Prophet (PBUH). The Holy Quran has spoken about the second circle where the universe and mankind take their course in this world. Man's knowledge about this circle is limited. The Holy Quran has spoken about man's course to the hereafter; starting from death to the separation of soul
