    SOME DAY YOU WILL CRY

    He was born April 14, 1927, Anthony Arthur Grea. His parents, recently arrived immigrants, lived with his mother’s relatives who had settled many years earlier and had built a very large three family brick house. The neighborhood, Pelham Parkway in the Bronx, was predominantly Jewish with the exception of a small side street called Barker Avenue. A small group of Italians from the Piemonte section, near France, had built their homes here in preference to the other neighborhoods which were considered crowded and noisy. Adjoining the 500 acre Bronx Park, the streets were tree-lined and each of these homes was proudly landscaped with an abundance of fragrant flowers.

    Anthony, together with his parents, were receiving English lessons from his American born cousins, and was doing so well, that approaching kindergarten age, he could already speak English without an accent. He was considered brilliant and admired by the neighbors. When the women met daily, Mrs. Giumetti , Mrs. Cavalli and Mrs. Milani, they would always take time to listen to Anthony speak Italian, French, English and occasionally, prompted by Aunt Rina, speak in Piemontese dialect.
