Author

Juja D.

Juja D, PhD is a published author in Bulgaria, EU. She was the creator and host of 96 episodes of the TV show “Aerobic Gymnastics” in the 80’s, which continued airing regularly for 10 years after she immigrated to the U.S. When she had everything—the status and power of a celebrity and the appreciation and love of her colleagues and fans, Juja D left Bulgaria and immigrated to the U.S. with no English, $50 in her pocket and two teenage boys. She started from scratch, working at Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus as a vendor selling cotton candy and popcorn. Remembering the joy of detachment from public life and the feeling of freedom away from the spotlight, the most comforting thought she had at that time was, “I am so glad nobody knows me here!” The author lived the rewards and pleasures of public life, but also paid the true price of fame, a price that takes a toll on one’s total existence.

    Foreword and Acknowledgements

This book was a call for action. A strong calling from within compelled me to put together this book and provide a space for people’s voice to be heard loud and clear. It was a call for service. Michael Jackson’s death served as a catalyst for an enormous revelation about the power of public word and opinion.

Millions of people shifted their attention on Michael Jackson, staring at him, dissecting his entire life, his songs, his legacy, his children, his finances and every aspect of his being—some with love, gratefulness and awe, and others with hate, disgust, and rage. Even dead, he has continued to affect the lives, thoughts and opinions of others more powerfully than ever before. Michael Jackson lived a life torn between the immense joy of music creation, love, respect and appreciation on one side and the turmoil of accusations fed by media and people hungry for spectacle and circuses on the other. And then, I consider us, the people, a huge part of Michael Jackson’s life because he cared about us and because we share the responsibility of creating his public image. We share the responsibility of creating who Michael Jackson is today for all of us.

The comments in this book, including misspellings and original punctuation (a perfect tool for checking one’s own writing ability) are quoted verbatim. They are, in fact, a mirror in which each of us can see a reflection of our own lives, thoughts and feelings, and most of all our own words, words that have the power to give or take away, to inspire or disgrace, to create or destroy, for death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)

With no time to lose, I called several of my closest friends and we started the book. I would like to give credit and thank my wonderful team, the talented and young Yani Dimitrov for his technical support, Betina Tsekova for compiling the material, John Gregory Stebbins for coming up with the name We are the Mirror, my artist friends Nikolai Denchev for his inspiration and painting the surrealistic portrait of Michael Jackson and Marian Marinov for his creative expression and painting the covers of the book.

I especially want to thank my dear friend Phillip Velinov, for his ideas, knowledge of English, and enormous help in the creative and technical process of making this book a reality. Together, we had the vision of reaching the hearts of millions and providing the opportunity for all of us to see ourselves as co-creators of our own reality through the power of the words we speak. Thank you, Phillip, for believing in the book and me from the start.

And last but not least, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to my brother Pavel, who was my guest from Bulgaria during the month this book was created, for his patience, acceptance, quiet inspiration and joyful presence. Thank you for your encouragement, your brotherly love, absolute understanding and for allowing me to finish the book in one breath.

    Thank you for sharing,

"for out of the abundance of the heart

    the mouth speaketh." (Matthew 12:34)

    Introduction

My dear readers, I am grateful for having the privilege to compile some of your thoughts, feelings, your love and appreciation, and some of your frustrations, grief and anger. This book is a memoir of HOW WE FELT when the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died.

Our goal is to document the entire spectrum of your opinions, comments and quotable passages. In MICHAEL JACKSON, WE ARE THE MIRROR, we aim to depict a truthful and objective illustration of what the world thought and felt about Michael Jackson during the period between the day the pop star died (June 25) and the day of his memorial service (July 7).

Currently, the internet is the fastest and most direct way we can express ourselves, providing us with the luxury of anonymity and honesty without having to take any responsibly for our words.

The Webster’s Dictionary definition of the word "comment" states "1: a commentary; 2: a note explaining, illustrating, or criticizing the meaning of a writing; 3: a remark expressing an opinion or attitude," and an "opinion is a belief based on what somebody thinks to be true or likely."

With these definitions at hand, I am convinced none of us really know the truth about Michael Jackson.

Being a person who enjoys beautiful music, yet not a music fan, I was shocked by the speed with which everything happened. Within an hour of Michael Jackson’s death, the world already knew of it and began to react immediately. I started reading the internet postings about Michael Jackson and I got hooked. I was crying and laughing; I felt sad and happy, frustrated and overjoyed with love, thinking, People have to read this!

What really happened? Who was Michael Jackson for the world? I wanted to understand why people felt the way they felt and what drove some of them to buy tickets from London or Tokyo just to go to Los Angles and be part of his Memorial Service.

Reading this book, you will sense a powerful voice crying for a part of us that died with Michael Jackson, a part joyful, innocent and dear to us, a part that we, the people filled with hope wanted to protect but could not. We grieve for Michael Jackson, but even more so, we grieve for ourselves and our own lives.

What was my experience? On June 25, I felt profoundly sad, as if a friend had died. I had hardly listened to any of his music in the last two or three years. I stopped and wondered: Am I a part of this mania taking the world by a storm, or is it something else? Thinking about it, I realized that Michael Jackson’s music had actually healed my heart a long time before when it was most broken and devastated. His music left a part of him somewhere deep inside me, a place almost forgotten.

The cassette Off the Wall was given to me as a present in Lake Charles, Louisiana with the advice, Listen to him, he will make you feel better. I did not speak English at that time and had no clue who Michael Jackson was; naturally, he knew even less about me. Nonetheless, Michael Jackson’s music had healed my heart. I started listening to him, going from a state of depression to a better place, and the more I listened, the better I felt—loving him and dancing with his music. When I went back to Bulgaria, I took with me the video We Are the World (I love this song). There was an endless line of guests and neighbors who wanted to see it.

I have promised not to give my opinion about Michael Jackson in this book and to be absolutely impartial, and I certainly intend to keep my promise. The book is only a space where people from around the world share their thoughts about the extraordinary and controversial human being, Michael Jackson. It is a book about us, observing Michael Jackson’s life, about our perception and reflection of our own lives. WE ARE THE MIRROR.

We have used only a small fraction of the multitude of comments spanning the entire spectrum of human emotion. If you ever had an experience with Michael Jackson in person (positive or negative; inspiring or disheartening, whether it was a brief encounter, a lasting friendship or just a moment during a concert) and you want your story to be published, please share your experience at www.michaeljacksonreal.com

Thank you again for the generosity of your hearts and for sharing it with the world.

    With all my love,

    JUJA D.

Michael Jackson will always be one of the biggest influences of music forever,. Especially since the 1970’s to now. He has touched us musically in every way possible. From music to video to dancing to just being the artist he wanted to be and everyone once to be. Micheal will always be remember for his music. We as people around the world have a forgiven any famous person for the faults and applaud him or her return to stardom.

    another pedaphile dead, good

    M. Clark, Jun 25 at 08:21 PM

It saddens me to read the judgmental comments of so many. However all of us have the right to voice our opinion. What we need to remember is that all of us fall short, in one way or another and all will answer for our actions. Life is too short to be judgmental. Let our character speak from the heart. Let compassion rule. Remember that those who show mercy will receive mercy and for the way we judge others, we will be judged.

One fact is for sure, all of us will one day be in the same position that Michael Jackson is now, and what will others say about us?

Stransky, Jun 25 at 08:21 PM

Michael Jackson is a legend, who would have thought that he would die at the age 50 and not stay on for another 10 to 15yrs. He was a real legend and a ellusive superstar in the 80’s to the 90’s. I can remember growing up during my childhoods day s and would be listerning and watching his clips and fanatastic muzics. He will be remebered. Rest in Peace Mr. Jackson, even though there has been alot of painful critics about what you have done in the past,..you stand out and asked for forgiveness. And regarded as a supersta in the 20th century…….

mike, Jun 25 at 08:25 PM

There are some real ignorant morons out there. I wasn’t a big fan, I did like some of his 80’s stuff, and he does remind me of Elvis who also died in a tragic way. Both of these men were on top of the world and then later things would go very wrong for both of them. Goes to show that happiness is indeed a tough commodity to hold on to. I hope that he has found peace.

    Rose L., Jun 25 at 08:26 PM

To the people who come here just to bash him & leave nasty remarks, how would you feel if this was YOUR family member everyone was talking about? Regardless of anything else, he was still someones son, brother, father, uncle and friend and people are grieving for him. It doesn’t matter what you think of him, THEY still deserve your respect.

NoSorrow, Jun 25 at 08:32 PM

Uhm, I am really disgusted.I just watched Larry King Live, and they showed the picture of them trying to revive Michael, with his eyes shut. Honestly that is something I didn’t want to see, and I doubt his family wanted it blasted all over the news. Way to for doing a vultures job and swinging in before the flies do. You people are disgusting, and I hope the family sues seeing you don’t even know who the source is according to one of your reporters that was on Larry King Live. Have better taste, write about how he will be remembered for how he touched lives, not blast his dead face all over tv.

shane, Jun 25 at 08:37 PM

Stacy, Jun 25 at 08:40 PM

Michael Jackson, may your soul rest in peace. You will be missed by those who cherished your talent in music and for being the greatest music pop star ever. Yes, Micheal may have acted a bit stranger than usual but no one will ever make me believe he messed with little children. To all the haters out there, I dare anyone of you all who has never sinned to cast the first stone! You were not there so how would you know what really happened! God do not like ugly! Michael gave people hope and the inspiration to become a singing superstar just like him. I love u MJ!!

judy, Jun 25 at 09:00 PM

Michael you will be missed. Those of you who have bashed Michael and intending to bash him need to look at your own life before you throw the stone. Who’s prefect? We all have done something wrong. To the family I know you will miss Michael but try to remember all the good timed you shared and from this day forth spend as much time with your love ones show them how much you love them.Peace and God be with you. HATER stop judging and show some love you’ll find life to be much happier for you.

John, Jun 25 at 09:00 PM

Look on the bright side, children are safe again.

I am just so going to miss him!!! No words to say!!!! My grieve goes beyond anything!!!

    smilie12, Jun 25 at 09:02 PM

The same overstated label can be said for Elvis Presley. He was a fat neurotic drug addict without many good sounding songs in his later years.

carly, Jun 25 at 09:05 PM

man i’m only 9 and i miss him like crazy well at least he’s on peace up there walking with God i was eating at Joes Crab Shack when someone got a text and then i found out music by michael came on and i almost cried i didnt eat my food and i spilt ranch i was a mess without him alive

Jonathan, Jun 25 at 09:05 PM

At some point in his life, he probably touched all of us in some way with his music, talent, or his unique blend of passion and courage. We’ll miss him.

Brat, Jun 25 at 09:05 PM

Leaving aside his personal issues, the man had talent. He was a very lost soul who hopefully now is at peace. I dread the next few weeks as the vultures will descend and the media feeding frenzy will be horrific. In a way I suppose its fitting, he lived his life under the glare of the spotlight. Why should his death be any different? The ones I feel sorry for are his children, hopefully he was smart and had a will in place that will see to their well being without the three ring circus that a custody trial would become.

    p-man, Jun 25 at 09:06 PM

not relevant? Michaels music is some of the most influential and essential music out there. i hate most pop music but his work is something i can really get my teeth into as a musician. Michael was a great singer and performer, one of the best. its just such a shame he had to destroy himself with all his surgery. rest in peace MJ. you’ll definitely be remembered.

Ima, Jun 25 at 09:15 PM

Poor ol’ Michael…he was the goodest, most bestest, most wondermus, most greatest, coolest, most grooviest, most magnificent, extree special, brilliantest, most outstandingest…

I am in shock…he might have went though his problems..but i grew up with him…grade school dances with his pin on my chest …he was the best….there will never be a artist like him again

Greg, Jun 25 at 09:36 PM

He probably was the greatest musician ever, with endless talent; however if he didn’t accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and saviour, he is now in Hell ! No ifs or buts about it.

Jim, Jun 25 at 09:39 PM

Michael Jackson was a man of extremes; from his ever whitening skin (seems he refused to be black) to his multiple surgeries, only to end up with a ridiculous pointy nose. Had a chimp for pet (maybe it was more than a pet), only one silver glove, a Disneyland like house, slept with little kids which got him in trouble with the law more than once and strained his relationship with his sister. But, all in all, he was a good musician and contributed to the music world with a unique style.

KH, Jun 25 at 09:43 PM

at first i thought it was a joke that michael had died, but sadly, its true. all i can say is R.i.P Michael you are in a better place now … HEAVEN:)
