Sinister - Emeralds Hue
CHAPTER 1
Mmmm Zach what you cooking that has this place filled with such a fantastic aroma? It smells so good in here,
said Saint inhaling the aroma as he walked into the kitchen.
Just peppers, onions, sausage, and cheese omelets with rib eye steaks and toasted bagels with Philadelphia cream cheese,
Zach replied in one breath.
Just, damn bro that would be a gourmet meal if you just add the orange juice,
Saint replied humorously.
Don’t patronize me bro, just grab the orange juice from the refrigerator,
Zach shot back.
They both laughed at the parity of their words as Saint walked to the refrigerator for the orange juice while Zach flipped the last omelet onto his plate.
Breakfast is served, lets eat,
Zach said as he placed food on the table.
Hey, where you been all night kiddo?
Zach inquired tilting his head as he grabbed two glasses from the cabinet.
Every morning for the last two weeks Zach asked that same question which still caught Saint off-guard.
Hey bro where you headed at such a time like this isn’t it past your bed time early bird?
Zach inquired from the huge sectional doing his usual late night channel surf.
After being caught trying to sneak out his own crib without his friend noticing, Just for a walk I want to get some fresh air,
replied Saint.
Need some company? Zach asked,
You know those streets are rough at night."
Gnaw I’m just stretching my legs, see you later.
Saint replied as he gently closed the door to the twelfth floor twelve hundred square feet penthouse he shared with Zach.
Plus, you just wouldn’t understand,
Saint mumbled as he walked toward the elevator with his head down.
Excuse me sir?
asked the building security man who looked nothing like an elevator attendant.
Uh oh nothing, just thinking out loud,
Saint said as he stepped onto the elevator.
As Saint exited his building on 31st and Times Square, he inhaled the New York air, it was a long cry from his childhood years in Maine were it was as peaceful as death. Here he stood in the business capitol of the world were action never ceased to rest.
Watch it scumbag this sidewalks for walking jackass,
spoke an obnoxious pedestrian waking Saint from his reverie.
He began walking east with no particular destination but he couldn’t shake the thought as to why he was being pulled in that direction.
The sounds of burning trash cans being kicked, noisy homeless alley hangers, and NASCAR cabbies broke the night silence.
Stop, leave me alone, help!
screamed the voice of some distraught lady across the street struggling with two men as they pulled toward a dark alley way.
Saint did his best to dodge the heavy traffic, nearly being struck by a cab before he reached the other side. Curious about the trio in a struggle, when he reached the alley it was empty with no one in sight.
But then came more cries, Somebody help, no please no, somebody help,
the cries seemed distant and muffled.
Saint rushed down the alley until he was in full view of the trio he had seen earlier. He stood frozen in confusion of what he saw happening in front of him.
Her blouse was tied around her hands and mouth exposing her ample breast while his partner had her dress up over her waist and his pants down to his ankles hammering away like an angry construction worker.
Hurry Jay that’ll shut this foxy whore up till my go,
said the guy holding the lady into submission.
Saint was now the only one who could hear the ladies desperate cries for mercy. He walked toward the degrading threesome with fire in his eyes.
Look,
said the guy waiting his turn, we got someone who wants to join.
Abruptly he stopped speaking becoming lost in Saints eyes.
Saint attacked the mesmerized guy with a kick to his hung open mouth. He crashed what felt like a steel toe boot into his teeth until he stood on top of the guy’s face like a roller skate. Saint pressed down with slight strength from his calf muscle to hear the symphony of facial bones cracking.
His partner must have been in a desperate need to get his rocks off before he decided to help, but by that time Saint was already pulling his ankle out of the crushed grapes throat. The guy got up terrified by the sight of his decapitated friend.
H-h-how Di-did-did you!
stuttered the half naked idiot trying to pull up his trousers.
Saint thought otherwise grabbing the guys’ arm and ramming his shoulder into the creep’s sternum trying to split the man in half. Blood oozed from his mouth as he folded to the ground. Saint dropped the guy’s arm, then picked him back up by the ankles, and spun him around as hard as he could until the guys’ torso crashed into the brick wall knocking him unconscious. This wasn’t enough for Saint as he tried it again backing up some he spun the guy around again until his head crashed into the corner of the buildings wall so hard the bricks became lodged in the guys’ skull. He let the guys’ ankles go leaving him stuck to the corner of the wall in an awkward position.
Saint turned to the sobs of the distraught young lady.
Thank you, thank you so very much!
she repeated as she sat in a trance of horror.
How could she be thankful after living an evening so unforgiving, how could she live with rape, possible pregnancy, and maybe Aids, he thought to himself. She continued to cry while sniffling she wouldn’t tell anyone of the extremities that just took place, and how grateful she was for me stepping in. How I wanted desperately to believe her, how could she possible go on living after such tragedy, only if I would’ve stopped them sooner or wore a mask to hide my…
Saint, earth to Saint is anybody in there!
Zach shouted as he sat down at the dining room table, just grab the O.J. and forget I ever asked gosh.
Zach’s rant brought Saint back from his daydream; he grabbed the orange juice and walked into the dinning room.
Wow Zach this meal looks as amazing as always,
he said trying to change the topic.
Stop it bro I get it you don’t want to talk about it,
Zach was slightly annoyed by his friends secretive ways, but thank you for the compliment now let’s dig in.
After a brief silence Saint brought up some news he heard about asbestos sights in New York and how architects were raising fees because of it and since architecture was Zach’s professional field he could hear it from an inside source not only that he wanted to lighten the mood.
Not only are we raising fees we’re asking clients to pay medical expenses if workers are poisoned on the job,
he answered.
Saint could see the excitement on Zach’s face as he explained, Saint admired how happy his friend seemed whenever he talked about construction.
