A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR
In the past—and not so distant at that—the idea of Christian Fantasy and Christian Mystery—was laughed at—not accepted—by the so called (serious) writing community. Those times have gone—like the days of separate drinking fountains in the South. The truth of the matter is that no one is better qualified to write speculative fiction than Christians. After all—they know that the real creator of the universe is (Lord Jesus Christ) and they are constantly enlightened by the Holy Spirit. The notion that only atheist science can accurately tell a tale of mystery about the future is what kept Christian writing from the forefront—but no more. Fresh minds—with fresh ideas—and even more important—fresh points of view are stepping upto the plate—and telling a new kind of tale. Tales of humanism.
CHAPTER 1
Let both grow together until the harvest
—St.Matthew
Ruth Keycastle reached across the table and took hold of her seeing-eye wand—it was a sophisticated sensing device—which allowed her—because she was totally blind—to see—when she waved it gracefully about the room, I take it that there is a reason why this couldn’t wait until morning. I mean—it’s—where is that clock—oh yes—there it is—oh goodness—it is three in the morning. Now what is it that I couldn’t have gotten a few more hours of sleep?
Mrs. Applefield—being the close friend and life long companion that she was—began to arrange some of Ruth’s garments for her, Now look here—I’m just doing what you told me to do—if something came up—believe me—if I had my way—I’d be fast asleep too. But you did say that you wanted me to inform you if a new client came calling—no matter what time of the day or night.
Oh—my—I did say that—didn’t I—well—I guess if this is such an occasion—that I’d better get dressed and make a proper entrance. After all—first impressions are the only ones that count—and a client has to believe that I take their needs and concerns very seriously. Mrs. Applefield, please go and make some coffee for our guest. I’m fine here—I can get things together—let the client know that I’ll be down in a few moments.
Zane-heart grabbed hold of a small creature—thinking along the line to kill it, So—the big brass wants you to work on the case—to be honest I don’t see what difference it is going to make if you work on solving this case or not—I think they are just wasting their money. I mean—hell—bring in a private detective so solve this damn thing—do you even know the facts of the case yet? No—you don’t I can tell by the way that you are looking about the area that you know nothing about this. Why do you think we are in the woods—in this stinking cave—with this dead body—and to be honest—I’m the lead detective on this case—people take orders from me—do you hear?
Ruth seemed to ignore him—going about her business—she handed him a document of authority—which—when he read it—seemed even more beside himself—but she went on, First of all—I was called in to investigate this crime—I have no reason to get in your way. And though you might think that I need your assistance—I don’t—I’ve been solving crimes for over thirty years—I have a ninety percent—case close—record. Now if I’m not mistaken—that is way better than the so called—government employed police can boast—but that is not what is important at the moment. This case has interested some very powerful people—we are talking high places—and I’m guessing that it is you who doesn’t have a clue.
What in the hell are you talking about, woman—I’m the lead detective on this case—I know as much about this as anyone else—fact of the matter is that I was the first detective here—making it mine. What we have here is a very old dead guy—hanging upside down from chains—very old chains—the reason that there is still flesh on the body—is because that cave has been frozen in ice for who knows how long—
That is the point that needs to be addressed detective—just how long would you say that this body has been in this cave—can you tell my looking—no—everything in here has been frozen—then the next question becomes—how long has this cave been frozen—because at one point—it had to be normal—otherwise—how did the body—along with some other obvious evidence get in here.
We’ll have the results of all that in a few hours—the lab guys are coming in—this is a new investigation—things take time—you should know that. And why are you looking off—so strange—when all the evidence is over here?
Detective, I’m blind—if you sem to think that I’m not paying attention to the things that you deem important—you are very mistaken—you see this device I’m holding in my hand—it allows me to (see) the world around me in a very unique way. I can see the trash behind you—I can see the officers who are at the entrance of this cave—I can see the high pieces of the cave—areas that I’m sure that you or your men can not view—the fact of the matter—as you might put it—is that—the device I’m holding in my hand allows me to view the area at a 360 degree angle—I can see in a way that normal sighted people can’t.
I knew something was weird about you—you are that famous blind detective—when I saw your name—it didn’t dawn on me that you were the one—your father was a police officer—damn good one—and you great grandmother was one of the best detectives this force has ever known. Still—blind and all—the brass must be out of their minds—bringing in a…
A what—a disabled person to solve your case—believe me when I tell you—I might lack the type of sight that you and your men have—but I make up for it with something far greater—something that you don’t fully understand—judging by your conversation—I have insight. First of all—the body has been in this cave for over six hundred years—you can tell—or rather—when your crime scene specialist get here and the evidence is all gathered and examined—you’ll find that the rates of decay about the base of the shoes and other small items—the finite pieces of metal fibers at are just at your feet—be careful not to walk on them—we wouldn’t want to loose precious evidence—you’ll find the decomposition factor to suggest six hundred years.
This guy has been hanging up in this cave for six hundred years—no way—this is a vast metropolitan area—someone would have discovered him way before now.
On the surface of the cave—it has a strange coating—it is almost as if it was put there to conceal the existence of what has been found in here. I think once the evidence has been properly processed—you’ll find that this cave was man-made—we are not standing in a cave—we are standing in a tomb.
You want me to believe that six hundred years ago—this guy was brought to this cave—killed—and then left here until now—and that the cave itself was created to hide the face that a murder had been committed. But the real trick—was that there is a substance covering the walls that has defied our most sophisticated sensors—so that the crime might have gone undetected for another hundred years or so. You see—my question is—how would someone from six hundred years in the past—know how to fool our police sensors now—in their future?
You pose a good question, detective—but all of the evidence isn’t in—I can see all sorts of possible clues that need to be properly examined—before any rational conclusion can be conferred. One this is a fact—this man died an horrible death—his skin slowly peeled from his body—look at this right there—strange instruments were used to probe and inflict injury and unthinkable torture on this poor fellow. But for some reason—I seem to remember seeing this type of torture before.
The poor bastard—nobody should ever have to die like this—it’s uncivilized!
Mr. Rato-goma’jun acted in an indifferent manner for long moments—then without changing his expression, So—you are the woman who helps out that famous private detective—er—Ruth Keycastle—is it? Well—for all my money I’d just as soon let the regular police handle the matter—if you ask me—seeing that they have more resources at their command—and all. But I can’t expect you to share my confidence in law enforcement. I mean—I’m a man of means—wealth—money and power!
Mrs. Applefield shook her head slightly, Is that how you view the world—as being something that can be controlled by money? Indeed, sir—you disappoint not only myself—but every living human being that has ever lived and died in the name of justice. I believe it is written that the love of money is the root to all evil—I hold that saying in high regard for several reasons. First of all—while those who are of the nature of the anti-Christ—seek to debunk the beauty of the Word of God—they find themselves in a sudden trap—falling into the pit of their own foolishness. Maybe money is like so many things in this seemingly God forsaken world—with all its wars and violence—brought about by the social disease of Wealthy people—that the root of all evil if even found out at all—is a miracle in itself. But that Love—which is the greatest power of them all—the greatest emotion that mankind can hope an aspire to—can not change the nature of money—for if the love of money is the root to all evil—then what emotion or feeling can any person have towards it—that would legitimize it—what feelings can anyone express towards money that would make it any less evil—oh—I’ve heard people say that God stated that there was no evil in and of itself—less we get rid of the guilt that the thing generates—but money is an invention of the Devil himself—it is by nature a lie.
My dear woman, think on this and perhaps you will change your mind—if money were so bad—why has it survived for so long—why is it at the very heart of Technoligion—which everyone knows is the greatest religion of all times—encompassing all planetary beliefs—teachings and doctrines—synthesizing them into one comprehensive philosophy of government—for everyone knows that technology without money is a dead thing—and money means in its purest form—reward. And as we all well know—from ancient cave men—to the most modern and technically advanced planet in the League of Worlds—the concept of rewards has evolved—just like mankind did—from the lowest for of organic life—to the awesome living machines that govern the United Planets—which are the foundations of the League of Planets and the League of Worlds. So—without money in one form or another—there would be no progress as we know of it.
You fool—it is exactly because of money that all of our problems comes—as you stated—money is a concept—it stands for reward—and in times of old—a reward might have been the killing of some poor animal so that it could be eaten—in the ancient times of Earth—money took on the form of abstraction—it is the great lie—people exchange money in various forms as if it were the things that they possessed—but they possess nothing—it is a symbol of something that the wealthy think they have—but in truth—they have nothing—because money is a false god—it is the image of the beast—a graven image that has caused countless reasons for death. People will do anything for money—even forsake their God—Lord Jesus Christ—as Judas Iscariot one of the prime anti-Christ—but by all means—not the first nor the last. Money is the Devil’s answer to God’s commandment for mankind to pray and worship God.
But without money—how would anyone buy or sell things—without money—how would our advanced society function. I have found that all those who put down money—are themselves—poor—and found to be lacking of it. I believe it is safe to say that if one has wealth—one is then in a position to understand how complex—having it—really is. You cry for all those who have no voice—the poor who if they could get rich—would kill to do so.
Then I’ll put it to you this way—what emotion can be felt towards money—that will make it any less evil—is it the emotion of liking money—or maybe just hating it—how about—feeling nothing for it at all—no! No matter how one feels about it—money and the love for it—the hate for it—the likeness for it—even the indifference for it—all leads in the end—to the same pit! It was because of money that Judas turned against God—it was because of money that every war that has ever been fought—has been started—it is because of money that the entire human society turned from God’s perfect and loving ways—and began to worship false gods—yes—even in these most modern of all modern of times. The evil man-made religion of Technoligion was created and designed to replace God’s perfect love for us. Mankind made machines—which in turn created a false god that every knee is forced to kneel and every head is forced to bow—and in what? To honor and praise money which is the vanity of all vanities—for there is nothing more evil and nothing more satanic than money. It is the ultimate lie told by Satan—and enforced by his evil demons upon the human race!
Indeed, woman, talk like that can be viewed as reason for madness—so watch yourself!
Ruth voiced, "There are serious implications in this case, Mrs. Applefield—I don’t think that the real answers rest totally within our present sense of understanding. Oh—it is a fact that there is a poor soul that has been dead for over six hundred years—hanging upside down in what appears to be a man-made cave—which in reality is a tomb. But things run deeper than that my dear, Applefield—there is the obvious political involvement in what might seem to be nothing more than just one more unsolved crime—that hundreds of years ago—went unno-ticed—but all this then begs the question—why bring in a private investigator—to solve what the police are dismissing as probably nothing more than a hate crime—done way back—centuries ago. And it isn’t the horror of the nature of the crime that I am toying with—because hate crimes in ancient Earth were
