Long before man came into being on the planet, there were those called the mystics. The mystics were comprised of many races or clans. Elves, Fairies, Dwarfs, Dragons, Nymphs, Trolls, Orcs, Unicorns, Wizards and many other strange and noble creatures. The ancient wars of the tribes had been put aside and they lived in peace. When man arrived he was welcomed and for many years peace was throughout the planet. But man started fighting and making war on each other for land and riches till one day all the hatred created SOLAK. As the hatred grew SOLAK became stronger and he built huge armies from the hate. Soon darkness ascended over the land and SOLAK released his armies to destroy all mankind. The battles raged over many years and mankind was doomed. The mystics had an alliance once in the early years but broke it when man turned on each other, but the mystics felt they had to help and honor that alliance once more. The mystic clans of Elf, Fairies, Pixies, Orc, Troll, Wizards, Warlocks and Dragons went to help man defeat SOLAK and his armies. Many thousands died on all sides till SOLAK was finally destroyed and peace returned to the planet. This peace was short lived for man had not learned from the warwith SOLAK. Soon man went to war with all the mystics with the idea of total extermination of them. The clans came together and fearing that man would destroy them decided to leave the face of the earth and go to their solitude in middle earth where no man could reach them.

The families of man that helped them were giving a legacy of the Dragon lord and the queens and the realm of middle earth would sleep as the families dispersed over the planet with a mark on the right hip. When the chosen dragon lord would find and marry one of the queens, then and only then would middle earth awaken from their sleep. When they would wake they would declare war on mankind if he were still alive. But centuries past and the dragon lord never found his queen. Now some twelve centuries have past and a man not knowing why is on a quest to find a wife or as he says a queen for his realm not knowing what lies in store for him. After centuries the circle is about to be completed and the great awakening is about to begin…….

    THE

    AWAKENING

    THE

    BEGINNING

The time is now, here in the twenty-first century. You see a man that has had a less than perfect life. We will call him Joe. He is average build with a bit of a pouch, and is in his mid-forties. Slight graying hair, has reading glasses for the fine print. He has survived eight wars, major arteries cut, gang-green, bone cancer and more broken bones than he wants to remember. In his life two broken marriages just searching for his soul mate, but no longer believe that one-day she will come to save him.

On a fine spring day as romance is in the air, the decision was made (he always made split second decisions and this was another of them) with no family and fewer friends it was time to search for the girl of his dreams. The queen of his realm what ever that may be. Not wasting any time, he loaded his beat up truck, took all the money he had in the bank and headed off to find the answer to the dreams he has had.

For many months he wandered searching for his love and place in the world. But dreams are elusive and if found are harder to hold. Would he ever find his dream girl or would he just be lost in time? The more he traveled on his quest the more he felt forsaken on his dream. Dreams do come to those that keep going and his was to begin in the next town.

He had driven about twelve hours and felt it was time to take a break, find a place to eat and to find a place to rest before beginning the new day and maybe find his destiny.

A light rain began to fall as he was on the out skirts of town. You could tell by the darkening sky that a storm was approaching. But he never guessed that he was the storm front that would change man and the history of mankind forever. This would be the dawning of tomorrow and the new realm of a forgotten age. As the lightning flashed and the thunder crashed he pulled into town. The rain was falling very hard by now and it was very hard to see more than a few feet.

As he pulled into a parking space he realized that there was something out of place .For down the middle of this small town was an alley or a divider like a no mans land. Maybe it was the rain or the fatigue of the road, he knew he was hungry and tired. But as he sat he noticed two police stations, then two restaurants. Yes everything in the town was in twos, what kind of madness was this? Why would a small town have two of everything? He would learn the answer very soon and it would be the hard way. For as he would step out of his car the world he lived in and the world of time honored would collide and the dark knight would begin to stirdeep within him and he would not understand for a long while, what it was. In the sky was a great flash of lighting and in the clouds he thought he saw a figure. Was it to come or just the rain, fatigue and hunger that were playing tricks on him? The answer to these and other questions were about to come true.

As Joe stepped from the car, he felt an uneasy feeling come over him. This strange feeling was nothing he had felt before and seemed to be growing with a quickening pace within him. Joe ran for the diner and stopped outside the door that is when he heard a faint noise coming from the divide or no mans land that he would learn about. He heard the noise again, voices, slurs of name-calling, and the faint plea of a woman in trouble.

Joe walked down the porch under the awnings and peered around the corner. He saw what looked like four dark figures bent over something on the ground. Then he heard the woman’s plea again, and realized that they were going to rape her. There was no time to run for the police. No time to yell for help. The storm was deafening with the thunder and as he looked into the street, the lightning flashed and that strange figure on the clouds seem to be riding a dragon, breathing fire into the storm. The figure seems to hold the reins of the beast and it seemed to be coming towards him. The figure was dressed in armor with a horned helmet upon his brow. He was dressed all in black like the dark of night; a long cape was hanging from his shoulders and a broad axe he held aloft in one hand, as if in a charge. The lightning flashed again and he was gone. Did Joe see what he saw or was it the night playing tricks on him, he wasn’t sure?

Before he could think more on it the woman’s plea was heard again ever so faintly as they covered her mouth with their hands.

Joe knew he had to do something, but what? Being the rain, wind, thunder, and darkness he developed a quick plan. Not the smartest plan but a quick plan. He found a piece of pipe lying on the ground and picked it up. As he crept in the darkness he developed his plan. The figure closest to him he would hit first then work his way around the circle till she was free. Then he would tell her to run for help while he would stop them from following her. He started his attack. The closest man he hit along side of the head with a tremendous thud. Blood spurt from the wound as it opened wide from the impact. The others turned and stared at the first as he fell over limp on the ground. Stunned by what they saw, Joe turned to the second and with a downward force the crack of the man’s skullwas heard as he slumped to the ground Joe charged the third as if he had been possessed by a demon. With one swing upward and the third went over in pain holding his jaw that had been totally shattered by the impact of the pipe. The fourth was too his feet and charged Joe from behind, as Joe yelled for her to run. Instantly he felt a searing pain in his back and turned to face the last man. Before he could regain himself from the pain the man lunged forward and Joe felt more intense pain this time in his stomach. Joe had not seen the knife that he was threatening the women with in the dark. Joe staggered and fell into the darkness of the night. The men were looking for him but where he fell it had concealed him. Soon he thought he heard a siren, then footsteps, finally voices. As he passed out from his wounds he drifted in time and space. While drifting in this sleep he saw the dark, horned rider again. As he approached he would not speak but showed a birthmark on his side and pointed at Joe then rode away. Who was this masked rider? Why was he showing himself to Joe? What was the connection? Why Joe wondered was it he? In time this and other questions would be answered after Joe unlocked all the pieces.

During this long sleep Joe drifted and on his journey saw a castle of white, with knights in armor and the dark horned rider in front of a vast army and seem to motion to him to join them. Was this the dead or some after life? Was the rider actual death and Joe had died from his wounds? But there was something familiar about all this but just could not place what it was.

The police finally found Joe in a bunch of debris in no-mans land. They applied pressure to his wounds but he was losing a lot of blood. The first wound in his back hit a vein but missed his lung. The second in his stomach was more severe for it had punctured his stomach and one kidney. The police located the knife and a piece of the woman’s blouse that had been torn away by the thugs.

As they loaded Joe on the cart for the hospital they shook their heads with little hope. The ambulance arrived at the hospital and rushed him to the operating room.

Hours passed as the woman paced the hall waiting news of this stranger who came to her aid. This woman was Christina. She was in her mid-forties, although she only looked to be in her thirties with her hair in a ponytail. Her shoulder length blond hair was matted with mud and dripping from the storm. It was hard to tell that she took care of it and was quite a sight to behold. Standing there in her torn blouse, mudded skirt, ripped nylons, make-up smeared and a shoe missing, wrapped in a blanket was an amusing sight. But the trauma of this night would live for a long time to come. Her long legs and well-built frame was still showing that she was a woman of class. But to see her now it was sad to those who knew her .She spent the next few days sitting in his room hoping that he would wake up. The days slowly turned to weeks and just about when all hope was gone Joe started to move. They called Christina at home and she drove as fast as she could to the hospital. His moving continued for hours when Christina was in the room by his bed sitting in the dark, she saw the horned warrior as he stood over Joe. At first she was terrified at this site, then a strange calm came over her as this warrior turned and pointed

First to her side then Joe, then his own, nodded his head and vanished before her eyes. What did it mean? Who was this figure? What was it? As she pondered these questions and more Joe moved, then gave a low moan, his eyes slowly opened to the light. Christina stood over his bed with hundreds of questions that one day might be answered.

As she watched, his hand moved very slowly as if it was made of lead. The room was dark except for one light in the ceiling that was a single spot pointed towards the bed. Soon his eyes opened and tried to focus to the light when he saw her leaning over him. He spoke in a raspy voice and asked ARE YOU AN ANGEL? No came her response in a low sweet voice as a small smile broke across her face in hearing these words. I am still alive, I did not die? Yes and No were her answers. She could hardly contain the feelings as she started to weep softly and the tears started to flow down her cheek. But you have a halo and a white light surrounds you At first Christina did not know what he meant and thought the medication still had him confused. As she turned the spotlight hit the bed and she realized that it had been behind her causing her to chuckle out loud with how he reached his conclusion of being an angel. Again he was puzzled and said I never knew angels cried, With this she began to laugh and thru her arms around him and whispered, Welcome back".

Joe drifted off back to sleep, part to do with the sedatives and the other from the injuries. The weathering storm within him started to grow with more details of what was to be. The doctor was telling Christina that Joe will sleep for the next few hours and she should go back home and get some rest till he starts to wake up again. But Christina was uneasy in her houseeven though it had a fine view of the town below. The house was located on a bluff about half way up the side of a mountain. This estate was left to her when her parents had been killed in a plane accident in New York City. The house was a massive almost castle style mansion, there were twenty bedrooms, three baths, shower, formal dining room, huge kitchen that had two ranges and refrigerators, one walk in freezer, with a ten foot food preparation down the center, a large front room, sitting room, parlor, entertainment room, sauna, pool, library/ study, a stable with four horses, tractor and three car garage. But what Christina did not know were the secrets that were within the house itself and would reveal the secrets when the time came.

Her grandfather started the house over a hundred and forty years before. He had told her father that it was a fortress to keep out the horned warrior, for he had seen him but never pursued it for they thought he was a little odd. You see he never had a job just his old gold mine.

Over the years no one could find it but he always had gold. Some say that it was the lost Dutchman’s mine but it was to far south and east to be it. Her father never worked either but she would recall that he always had dirty clothes when he was in his study, but he was killed before he could tell her and the location of the mine if there was one.

She had been left the entire estate and one hundred and twenty million dollars so she never had to work and being invested it was now quite a bit more. But with all her money and home Christina was very lonely for she would not date anyone in town for fear of only being after the money or may be the mine that she did not know herself. For the house echoed from the silence to the point she could hear her own heart beat in her solitude. Even the fear of asking people for help usually carried a price tag, for no one was considered a real friend. Sometimes at night she could swear she heard faint voices and light footsteps running in the house, with even the faint wing beating as unforeseen things flew by.

Christina had made up her mind that she would stay in the hospital room with Joe for when she was by him she felt a strange calm that reached into her soul. This feeling she could not describe but when she was a way from him panic set in and she wanted the feeling of calm and maybe could get a good nights sleep.

She had totally forgot of when the last time it was. The room had an extra bed so here is where she would sleep. She had brought withher a nightgown and a change of clothes for the morning. She changed her clothes then sat on the edge of Joes bed holding his hand and realized she was falling in love with him and knew nothing about his past, but none of it seemed important to her for she knew he had saved her from rape, and most certain death by the four men. They were a ruthless lot working for a corrupt police department and Joe was the first to stand against them. She sat for a long time in the silence of the room, watching, listening, and thinking and for the first time not feeling alone in the night.

Christina sat for a long time next to Joe, until she felt tired. She bent over and kissed him goodnight then went and got into bed. For sleep was just starting to over come her when the figure of the dark warrior appeared and stood by Joes bed again, she felt that she would watch from the safety of the bed but feared the warrior may harm Joe and got up to chase him off. When she looked into the helmet she saw no facial markings, was this a real spirit or a premonition of things to come. The figure still stood over the bed even while she put her hand thru him. This was very strange indeed for he was there but he was not there, was her mind playing tricks from fatigue?

Just as soon as he appeared he vanished but now she was a little uneasy and crawled up next to Joe. She had taken the blankets of the other bed, placed her head on his shoulder and finally went to sleep. It was now late in the morning when she woke from her long over due sleep and as she stirred heard a voice say ‘time to rise and shine sleepy head’. As Christina opened her eyes she saw Joe smiling and staring at her. First she felt a little embarrassed, and then she started to stutter ‘I, I, I, must of, no I did fall asleep, but I saw a figure and got scared, it was a ghost.’ Joe looked at her for a moment and a smile came over his face as he chuckled and said’ You are the angel and I thought you were protecting me!’ She looked at him and said ‘you are making fun of me?’ He said ‘no, but I did think that you were an angel and I did not mind a bit for I could of found a worst way of waking up with no one here’. I am glad that you were here for I was not alone for the first time in a long time’. With his words she knew that they were a lot a like and they would ease each other’s loneliness. This could be the beginning of her long awaited love that she hoped would be one day. She started to get up and he took her hand and said, ‘please stay’. She said ‘but you will lose respect for me and this is not what I normally do!’ I promise you I will not loserespect for you, I find that as I lay here and have been watching you that I am some how drawn to you like I have not been to anyone for a long time She looked into his eyes and could see the loneliness’ that he to had just as she and knew this was good.

There was a knock on the door and a voice said that they did not want to disturb them but they need to check on Joe. Christina got up and put her robe on and opened the door to let the nurse in. ‘Well I see that you are awake and talking, that is a real good surprise after so long in here. Joe asked how long had he been there and the reply was almost a month. They checked and cleaned the wounds that were nearly healed and breakfast was brought in for the two of them. While they were eating it occurred to Joe that he had slept with this women, they were eating breakfast, she still was in her nighty, she had kissed him, and he did not know who she was. So he looked at her, put his hand out and said’ I am Joe and I am very glad to meet you? As he paused she put her hand out and said Christina your angel not really but I will be if you want". They both laughed with the small talk and this little joke that they now shared.

Christina and Joe both thought to themselves how good it was to laugh for the first time in a very long time. As they sat looking out the window they realized that they enjoyed each other’s company. Christina had so many questions to ask and so did Joe but they realized they had time to ask and answer for Joe was in no rush to leave her company.

Some of the small talk went back to the ghost, that mysterious horned warrior. After a length discussion between the two of them they still could not make any sense out of what they both had saw and of what she remembered about what her grandfather had told about. But the figure was only beginning to show itself and in the future more details would come to light. Joe had a strange feeling that this figure was a sign, but what? Christina was preparing to go out and do some errands, for it was now on into the afternoon and the doctor would be coming in to see Joe for his daily check-up and may give him some news when he could leave. He may be able to take a nice hot shower too, and that was something he was looking forward to.

Christina had changed and earlier while doing so Joe had been thinking to himself just how beautiful she really was. A remarkable women in her mid-forties, blonde hair flowing down to just below her shoulders, deep blue eyes like that of a cool mountain pond.

She was a very well endowed woman with a body that had all the curves in the right places. With the longest most smooth legs that seemed to go on forever. She was standing in a light blue mini skirt with a lacey style blouse that would turn heads. Her nails and makeup looked as if professionals had done the work, she definitely knew when enough was enough. She definitely was not the muddy-dripping wet, soiled angel that he vaguely remembered from the alley. As she walked out the door he felt a pain go thru him, not from his wounds but in his heart and realized that this woman had healed the torn and bruised heart from another love of long ago and now he was falling in love with her and this feeling felt good after being gone for so long. He sat and counted the hours till her return.

Christina found that while she was out that all she thought about was Joe and could not wait to finish her errands to return to him. For she already knew that he was the one she longed for and waited for, her knight in shinning armor.

But that dark figure crept into her thoughts. Who or what is it? Why had she seen him? Why did it seem it was always in connection with Joe? But she did remember that she had seen it at the house after her parents had died. The answer would be found in the future as well as the long distance past.

For the past and the future were on a collision course that had been written over eight hundred years before. Christina’s errands included a trip to the bank, some light shopping for some special items, a run to her real house not the one that Joe would know about for a while, and then back to the hospital for an evening of romance that she knew she had been wanting for many years. She arrived back around four thirty to find Joe resting but not sleeping (he was looking forward to her return) as she came in she said you are suppose to be sleeping. He looked at her, smiled and said: how could I sleep when I missed you so much. I felt a break in my heart after you had left and now it has healed with your return. I have warmth where the cold had been in my heart and it is due to your love that has lifted me from the despair that I have felt. I believe that my quest may be over. Time will tell but I believe I am home." With hearing Joe’s words she dropped everything on the floor and jumped onthe bed and kissed him like it was her last day on earth. Tomorrow would be another day; the beginning had started for the alignment was nearly complete for the dark one to emerge.

After holding on to Joe for a long while and hugging and kissing with small talk, that went into the wee hours of the morning. Both exhausted and tired finally went to sleep in each other’s arms.

    THE DISAPPERANCE

    THE DISAPPERANCE

Morning found Christina in still in Joe’s arms as they lay and talked. They soon got up and dressed, for it was getting on to nine a.m. and the doctor would be in for his final checkup of Joe and then he could leave. The doc finally arrived and checked and gave his clean bill of health with his list of what not to do for a while. After all the paperwork Christina got Joe into the car for the ride home.

The local sheriff waved them down as they headed for the house. Bob walked up to the car; not a physically fit man but he was a rather timid man in most respects. There he was in his blue uniform with wrinkles in the mid riff where it strained to stay buttoned from his stomach that was forced into a couple sizes to small shirt. He wore a belt and suspenders to hold up his pants with the stomach protruding over the belt, obscuring it from sight. His holster was new and his gun had never been out or fired. He was a roly-poly man with a great personality and true loyalty to all that he believed were friends. Always willing to give a helping hand.

As he walked up to the car he had an ear-to-ear grin. He put out his hand and introduced himself. For the last time he had seen Joe was in the alley and covered with blood. He said ‘Hi, I am Bob the sheriff and wanted to finally meet you. What you did in that alley has everyone talking and you are a celebrity to this side of town, that took real courage to do for Christina what you did." I just acted on impulse for she was in trouble and I had to help there was no time to really think about anything and now I am glad I did’ said Joe.

Bob told Joe and Christina about the sheriff from the other side of town
