About this ebook

This book was written over a twenty day period during the month of May. Every day I would wake up and write to Hermes. It was a life-changing experience. This is a book of poetry but it is also at its heart a book of prayers. If you are pagan, polytheist, or just a fan of Hermes you might be interested in this one author's experience of the Great God of Divine Messages.

Muses, speak through me as I tell of Hermes son of Maia of the Pleiades

Hermes of the lion, of the sheep, your mother bore you on Mount Kyllene

Baby Hermes you are all stealth

With little curls and grasping fingers

You crawl out of your mother’s cave and head for sheep

Steal the sheep, little Hermes, hide them away. Keep the dogs silent

Little friend who makes the lyre

    Nurtured by the Horai

    The seasons bless you

With spring flowers, good pastures, and well-ordered time

    Eirene, Dike, Eunomia

Tickle your belly with finger tips, and under your feet

Your mother looks on, smiling, she of the golden star

    Sneak out, little baby

    Round you go

To Iris, Aphrodite, and the nymphs

    Each in turn

    Took you up

And held you to her breast

    From there you drank

    From all the lovely goddesses

    Learning the art of stealing

Pandora, built by gods, given gifts

You especially, found delight in her making

You gave her keenness, bright intelligence, cunning

And loved her as you love the race of man

Never did you call for her subjection

But it is man’s curse to want to hurt her

    Until they learn from you

    Dearest Hermes

The clever art of loving without hate

You are father to Angelia, Eleusis, Hermaphroditos and Pan

Palaistra, Priapos, the Satyroi and Panes

The Oreiades call you father, their mother the Nymphai

You are lion, goat, sheep and dog

You are father to Abderos, Aithalides, Arabos and Bounos

    Daphnis, Autolykos, Ekhion and Keryx

    Euandros, Eurestes, Eudoros and Kaikos

    Kephalos, Eurytos and Libys

    Kydon, Myrtilos, Orion and Pharis

    Phaunos, Polybos, Norax and Saon

You loved the goddesses Aphrodite, Brimo, Daeira and Peitho

    Persephone, Hecate and Pipituna

You loved the nymphs Kermentis, Nymphe, Okyrrhoe, Oreiades

    Penelopeia, Rhene, Sose and Tanagra

You loved the women Aglauros, Alkidamea, Antianeira and Akalle

    Thronia, Theoboule and Polymele

    Erytheia, Apemosyne, Aptale and Clytie

    Chthonophyle, Eupolemia, Creusa and Iphthime

Khione, Khthonophyle, Libye and Phylodameia and lay with them

You loved the men Amphion, Crocus and Perseus and lay with them

    The Thriai of Mount Parnassus

With heads of women and bodies of bees

To worship the Thriai is to worship you

They teach the art of prophecy

    — day

    Hermes of the Golden Blade

    Argeiphontes

    With you

    My troubles are at rest

    Like the hundred-eyed Argos

    The tilt of your magic

    Two snakes entwined

    With you

I turn ill wind to luck

    As Hermaphroditos

    Sings of joy

    And stands ready

    To give aid

    So his father, kindly Hermes

    Friend of us

    And Sweet Aphrodite

    Lovely beyond understanding

    Friend of us

    Gives us joy

    Blesses our homes

    Calls our names

    To join

    In sacred rites

    Hermes, God of Wonder

    Races through the internet

    At home inside the web

    Of mind

    And machine

    Hermes God of Magic

    From fools

    Alchemists
