Stock Investing for Beginners - Felix T. Mathis
Introduction
Today, most people have an interest in business and investing. Before I write this book, I began paying attention to the financial markets and started reading the Wall Street Journal. I also started reading the online financial gurus when the internet started making information about the stock market being accessible to most people. In fact, since the New York Stock Exchange opened its doors, I still believe that online stock charts are the ultimate thing to happen in the financial marketplace.
This book is written for the new investors who want a basic understanding of stock market that is easy to comprehend in terms and a clear description of how the psychology of trading, investment, and other financial related pieces suit together. The goal of this book is to leave you with a real-world working knowledge of the stock market with the least cost of time and confusion when you finish this book.
I don’t recommend particular stocks, and other than some time-tested strategies that every investor should know, I don’t recommend a particular technique or philosophy. Why? It is because I don’t follow financial gurus, and in my opinion, you shouldn’t either. However, this book will give you a guide. I include some methods for the experts in Chapter 5, but only you can compare different methods and examine them with a critical eye. It is said that nobody cares about your money as much as you do. This advice has stayed with me and prompted me to keep learning. Knowledge is the power that allows me to maintain complete control over my investments. I don’t just allow to be taken in by the latest investment fad without examining it for myself and seeing whether it passes the real test.
It is good to look forward and try your hand at the stock market before you get your early retirement. For sure, now you are thinking, What’s next?
You’re wondering if I figured out how to beat the market and became a millionaire. Or possibly the more pessimistic of you are wondering if I bet our life savings on a dud IPO and lost everything.
Chapter 1: Understanding Shares and Investment
Stocks are a known to be one of the greatest ways to invest your income and receive a profit, but they’re not the only way. When I first started investing, I was only focused on stocks and made that choice without looking at the options. Luckily, I’m contented with my results, but if I had to repeat from the start, I would analyze stocks critically and make a more informed decision.
Before dealing with the shortcoming I had, let’s look at the whole depiction of stocks.
Understanding Securities
You should know what securities are to understand stocks as a stock is a type of security. Security is a financial means with a particular value that can be acquired or traded. If you are an investor, your securities are your upkeep – if your investment turns out well, you will get an investment return in the form of interest, dividends, or growth – or sometimes any of these three.
Securities may be private which means only chosen individuals may invest in
